Product Description

The short and wide sweater has 3/4 sleeves and a round yoke with a leaf pattern. It is made top down in one piece. I have calculated 10 cm positive ease, choose a size that is 10 cm larger than your chest circumference. The sleeves and body are finished with a rib edging. The rib edging for the neck opening is taller in the back. You can easily make sleeves and body longer if you prefer. Or skip the sleeves completely to make a vest. This will of course affect the amount of yarn used.

Sizes: S (M) L (1X) 2X Circumference at chest: 91 (107) 118 (131) 144 cm Length: 45 (45) 47 (49) 49 cm Yarn: Geilsk tweed fv. T13, 190 m/50 g. Number of skeins: 6 (7) 8 (8) 9

Løv Sweater by Sidsel Sangild

Garment Overview

The Løv sweater is a crocheted pullover design featuring a modern construction method and flattering silhouette. This intermediate-level pattern creates a short and wide sweater with three-quarter length sleeves and a round yoke, worked seamlessly from the top down in a single piece. The design accommodates five sizes ranging from Small to 2X-Large, with chest circumferences from 91 cm to 144 cm and finished lengths between 45 and 49 cm.

Crochet Techniques and Stitches

This pattern employs several specialized crochet techniques to create texture and structure. The primary stitches and techniques used include:

  • Extended Single Crochet (Esc): A foundational stitch where the hook is inserted into the next stitch and yarn is pulled through, creating an elongated single crochet variation
  • Back Post Double Crochet (BPdc): A post stitch worked around the back post of the previous row's stitches, creating dimensional ribbed textures. A photo tutorial for this technique is included on the final page of the pattern
  • Front Post Single Crochet (FPsc): A post stitch variation where the hook is inserted from the front under the post of the next stitch, then a single crochet is completed, further enhancing textural depth
  • Rib edging applied to both the sleeves and body hem for a finished, structured edge

Construction Method

The Løv sweater employs a top-down construction approach, meaning you begin at the neckline and work downward to complete the garment in one continuous piece. This method eliminates the need for seaming and allows for easy adjustments during the fitting process. The round yoke is worked first, then stitches are divided to create the body and sleeves, which are finished simultaneously before completing the ribbed edging.

Yarn and Materials

The pattern calls for Geilsk tweed yarn in colorway T13, a 3-ply to 4-ply weight yarn with a yardage of 190 meters per 50-gram skein. Yarn requirements vary by size: Small requires 6 skeins, Medium and Large require 7 and 8 skeins respectively, 1X-Large requires 8 skeins, and 2X-Large requires 9 skeins. A 3.5 mm crochet hook is recommended for achieving the correct gauge.

Gauge and Sizing

The pattern specifies a gauge of 18 stitches and 16 rounds measured over a 10 x 10 cm swatch in extended single crochet. Achieving this gauge is essential for proper fit. The pattern recommends selecting a finished size that is approximately 10 cm larger than your actual chest circumference to allow for comfortable ease and movement.

Size Range

Five finished sizes are provided:

  • Small: 91 cm chest circumference, 45 cm length
  • Medium: 107 cm chest circumference, 45 cm length
  • Large: 118 cm chest circumference, 47 cm length
  • 1X-Large: 131 cm chest circumference, 49 cm length
  • 2X-Large: 144 cm chest circumference, 49 cm length

Skill Level

This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for crocheters with foundational knowledge of basic stitches and techniques who are ready to work with post stitches and more complex construction methods. Familiarity with gauge swatching, top-down construction, and reading crochet abbreviations is beneficial for success with this design.
