Product Description
This is a stylish and cosy infinity scarf that can be knitted in a variety of yarns to suit. The main patterns fits with a lovely drape but no so long that it gets in the way! There is also an option to make a longer looser scarf if that's how you like it though! It's another straightforward meditative pattern that uses simple Knit, Purl, Yarn Overs and Knit Two Together stitches to create a glorious effect. Don't be daunted by this if you have not yet had a go at some of these stitches as there are links to my tutotials to help you.
Luxe Infinity Scarf by Oh My Makery
What is Being Made
The Luxe Infinity Scarf is a downloadable knitting pattern designed by Oh My Makery for creating a continuous loop scarf using chunky weight yarn. This project offers multiple design variations, allowing crafters to choose between different stitch patterns while working with the same yarn weight and needle size. The infinity scarf construction eliminates the need for seaming, as the work is joined in the round during the knitting process.
Craft and Techniques
This is a knitting project classified as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for knitters with some experience beyond basic garter stitch. The pattern employs circular needle knitting, which allows the scarf to be worked continuously in the round rather than flat. The construction method involves casting on stitches, working flat for several rows, then joining the work in the round to create the continuous loop characteristic of an infinity scarf.
Key techniques used in this pattern include:
- Casting on and working into the back loop
- Joining work in the round using a stitch marker to track the beginning of each round
- Working repeating stitch sequences across multiple rounds
- Decreasing stitches using the knit two together technique
- Creating yarn overs for decorative lace elements
- Casting off purlwise for a finished edge
Stitches Used
The Luxe Infinity Scarf pattern incorporates fundamental knitting stitches combined to create textured and patterned effects:
- Knit (K) – The basic knit stitch forms the foundation of the fabric
- Purl (P) – Purl stitches are used to create texture and contrast within the design variations
- Knit 2 Together (K2tg) – A decrease technique that reduces stitch count and creates shaping or decorative elements
- Yarn Over (YO) – Creates new stitches and openwork sections, adding visual interest and lace-like qualities to the scarf
Pattern Variations
The pattern includes at least two distinct design variations:
Holy Moly Infinity Scarf – This variation features a repeating 4-row pattern worked 16 times (or 15 times for a longer version). The stitch sequence combines knit rows with decreases and yarn overs, creating a textured pattern. The pattern includes rows of knit stitches interspersed with rows featuring knit 2 together decreases paired with yarn overs, followed by alternating purl and knit rows before casting off.
Fern Luxe Infinity Scarf – A second design variation is included in the pattern, though the complete instructions indicate this version also begins with casting on 168 stitches (or 180 for a super long, looser option) and follows a similar construction method of working flat before joining in the round.
Materials and Specifications
The Luxe Infinity Scarf pattern is designed to work with chunky weight yarn, requiring 200 grams of super chunky yarn for each variation. The pattern accommodates two sizing options: the standard version uses 168 cast-on stitches, while a super long, looser scarf version requires 180 stitches, allowing crafters to customize the fit and drape.
The project calls for a 6.5 mm circular needle, which is appropriately sized for chunky yarn and enables the in-the-round construction. Additional materials include a stitch marker to track the join point and a sewing needle for any finishing work.
Gauge and Tension
The pattern specifies a tension of 10 centimeters square equals 11 stitches by 18 rows, providing a reference point for achieving the intended finished dimensions and drape of the scarf.
