Product Description
A perfect make for your staycation this year! This cute little shawl will keep you warm on those long evenings spent at the beach and will ease your transition into autumn. The pattern is a great introduction to tapestry crochet, instructions for which are included within the pattern.
I used Knitcraft Cotton Blend Plain DK in white (3 balls), Mustard (1 ball) and Green (1 ball) to make my shawl but any alternative DK or Aran cotton or cotton blend would also work well. Please be mindful that varying yarn weights and/or hook size will affect the amount of yarn required and the finished dimensions. The optional fringing is made using 1 ball of King Cole Bamboo Cotton DK.
I’d love for you to tag me in your beautiful makes. Have fun! xx
Lots of Little Oranges Shawl
What is Being Made
The Lots of Little Oranges Shawl is a crocheted triangular shawl designed by made by hem. This downloadable PDF pattern creates a finished shawl measuring approximately 128cm x 65cm (51" x 25.5") after blocking, making it a versatile accessory suitable for layering or draping.
Craft and Technique
This is a crochet project classified at an intermediate difficulty level, making it suitable for crafters with some experience in crochet fundamentals. The pattern uses a combination of basic and intermediate crochet techniques to build the shawl structure, incorporating increases and stitch variations to achieve the triangular shape.
Stitches Used
The pattern employs several key crochet stitches written in UK terminology:
- Double crochet (DC) – equivalent to US single crochet, used as a foundational stitch
- Treble crochet (TR) – equivalent to US double crochet, providing height and drape
- DC increases (DC inc) – double crochets worked twice in the same stitch to add width
- TR increases (TR inc) – treble crochets worked twice in the same stitch for graduated shaping
- Chain stitch (ch) – used for foundation and transition rows
- Slip stitch (ss) – for joining rounds and finishing edges
Materials and Tools
The pattern calls for a 4.5mm/US 7 crochet hook, or the appropriate hook size needed to achieve the specified gauge. The recommended yarn is Knitcraft Cotton Blend Plain DK, which offers 215 meters (235 yards) per 100 grams with a 50% cotton blend composition. The yarn weight is suitable for both DK and aran weights, providing flexibility in yarn selection. Additional tools required include a tapestry or embroidery needle for weaving in ends and scissors for cutting yarn.
