Longus Knitted Socks by Clare Devine
What Is Being Made
Longus is a knitted sock pattern designed by independent designer Clare Devine. This downloadable PDF pattern provides instructions for creating a pair of classic knitted socks suitable for knitters of all experience levels, particularly beginners seeking to develop their sock-knitting skills.
Craft and Primary Technique
This pattern is executed entirely through knitting, the primary craft method. Knitting involves interlocking loops of yarn using needles to create fabric, making it an ideal technique for constructing fitted, elastic garments like socks that require both structure and stretch.
Yarn Weight and Materials
Longus is designed to be worked in 4-ply yarn, a lightweight yarn weight that provides excellent stitch definition and durability for sock construction. The 4-ply weight creates a fabric with good elasticity and resilience, essential properties for socks that will withstand regular wear and repeated washing. The pattern includes a dedicated materials section specifying yarn requirements and needle specifications needed to complete the project.
Stitches and Techniques
The pattern incorporates fundamental knitting stitches and techniques appropriate for sock construction. The PDF includes a comprehensive abbreviations section detailing all stitches used throughout the pattern, allowing knitters to reference standard knitting abbreviations as they work through the instructions.
Difficulty Level and Pattern Structure
Rated as a beginner-level pattern, Longus is accessible to knitters new to sock construction. The downloadable PDF format includes pattern notes and guidance to support knitters through the project. Multiple size options are provided, allowing knitters to customize the finished sock dimensions to achieve the perfect fit.
