Lebo and Loba The Lions: Knitted Toy Pattern by Candice Le Grange
What Is Being Made
Lebo and Loba The Lions is a downloadable knitting pattern for creating two adorable stuffed lion toys. Each completed lion measures 17cm or 6.7 inches tall, making them perfect as small decorative toys, gifts, or collectibles. This pattern allows crafters to knit a pair of charming lions with distinct characteristics, suitable for intermediate-level knitters seeking a rewarding small project.
Craft and Technique Overview
This project uses knitting as the primary craft method. The pattern employs fundamental knitting techniques combined with shaping methods to create three-dimensional toy forms. Crafters will work with both straight needles and double-pointed needles to construct different components of each lion, demonstrating versatility in needle work.
Stitches and Shaping Methods Used
The pattern incorporates essential knitting stitches and increases to build the toy structure:
- Garter stitch (knit rows) for textured sections
- Stocking stitch (alternating knit and purl rows) for smooth, finished surfaces
- M1R (Make 1 Right) — an increase stitch created by picking up the bar between two stitches from back to front and knitting into the front, adding one stitch to expand the fabric
- M1L (Make 1 Left) — an increase stitch created by picking up the bar between two stitches from front to back and knitting into the back, adding one stitch for shaping
- K2tog (Knit 2 Together) — a decrease stitch that combines two stitches into one to reduce fabric width
- Cast on using the thumb method for creating the foundation edge
These techniques allow the crafter to shape the lions' bodies, heads, and limbs into their final three-dimensional form.
