Product Description
I was having trouble storing all my yarn, so I decided to create a bag for it. After it was done I realized it would make a great laundry bag too! This pattern is esily adaptable to make a bag bigger or smaller than I created.
Laundry Bag by BusyBeeCrocheting
What is Being Made
This is a beginner-friendly crochet laundry bag designed by Stephanie Staudacher. The finished project measures approximately 18 inches tall and 11 inches across, making it a practical storage container suitable for holding laundry or other household items. The bag features a structured cylindrical shape with a drawstring closure at the top.
Crochet Techniques Used
The laundry bag is constructed using fundamental crochet techniques that make it ideal for beginners. The pattern employs working in continuous rounds, a method that creates seamless fabric by building outward from a center point without joining rounds. The base of the bag is formed using a magic ring, a popular technique for starting projects with a closed center. The pattern is also easily adaptive, allowing crafters to customize the final size by adjusting the diameter of the bottom disc and adding or subtracting rows from the side walls while maintaining the visual appearance of the top section.
Stitches Used
The pattern utilizes several essential crochet stitches:
- Single crochet (sc) – the foundation stitch used throughout much of the bag
- Double crochet (dc) – provides height and texture variation
- Half double crochet (hdc) – creates intermediate stitch height
- Single crochet two together (sc2tog) – used for decreasing stitches
- Slip stitch (slst) – joins rounds and secures stitches
- Chain (ch) – creates the foundation and openwork sections
- Back loop only (BLO) – a technique where stitches are worked through only the back loop to create textured ridges
Materials and Tools
The laundry bag requires two primary yarn types. Sweet Roll yarn (in any shade) is the main yarn, with 2 skeins totaling 490 yards needed for the majority of the bag. Lily's Sugar and Cream yarn (in any shade) is used as a contrasting yarn, with 1 skein providing 60 yards for finishing the netting detail and creating the drawstring. The pattern specifies a Size 4 (F) crochet hook for working with these yarns. The designer notes that Lily's Sugar and Cream is used for the final rows because there isn't quite enough Sweet Roll yardage to complete the entire bag, creating a functional two-tone finish.
