This gorgeous sweater, with the yoke section in traditional gansey style stitchery, has timeless appeal. I named it after the beautiful, tiny fishing cove of Lamorna in South West Cornwall. The fit is straight with most of the patterning on the upper front and back. The sleeves and lower borders are in moss stitch, ending with a slightly raised ridge of reverse stocking stitch, which is also reflected on the yoke neckband. I hope you’ll love this sweater as much I loved designing it.

Lamorna is a knitted sweater designed by Pat Menchini, available in six size options to fit bust measurements from 76-81 cm (30-32 inches) through 127-132 cm (50-52 inches). The sweater features a fitted design with shoulder shaping and finished sleeve length of 47 cm (18½ inches) across all sizes. Length to shoulder shaping varies by size, ranging from approximately 55 cm (21¾ inches) in the smallest size to 63 cm (25 inches) in the largest size.
This intermediate-level knitting project employs stocking stitch as the primary fabric structure. The pattern incorporates cable work, as evidenced by the inclusion of a cable needle in the required materials. The construction involves multiple needle sizes to create proper shaping and fit, with ribbed edgings and structured increases and decreases typical of fitted sweater construction.
Lamorna is designed to be knitted using West Yorkshire Spinners The Croft DK yarn, a double knit weight yarn that provides 225 metres (246 yards) per 100g hank. The pattern requires 5, 6, 6, 7, 7, or 8 hanks of 100g depending on the size selected, all in the shade Skelberry 580. The yarn is worked at a tension of 22 stitches and 28 rows to 10 cm over stocking stitch using 4 mm needles, making tension testing essential before beginning the project.
Yarn quantities provided are approximate based on average requirements. Knitters should verify that any yarn substitutions match the stated tension to ensure proper fit and finished measurements. The pattern accommodates a wide range of sizes with graduated increases in yardage and finished bust measurements, allowing for customized fit across different body sizes.
