Product Description
Whether you favor the traditional fit of a beanie hat or love the modern fit of a slouchier hat, the Lakeview Hat has you covered! With six head sizes and two crown options, this unisex design will suit every member of your family. The hat is intended to fit snugly around the widest part of the head, so choose the size that includes at least a couple inches of negative ease (i.e., is at least a couple inches smaller than your actual circumference). Two crown styles are also provided: choose the closer-fitting beanie crown for a traditional fit or choose the looser-fitting slouchy crown for a modern fit. The hat is worked in one piece from the ribbed edge upward and features a cabled panel of twisted stitches set against a double moss stitch background.

Crown Height Options
The pattern provides two crown styles with varying heights:
- Beanie Crown: 5¼" to 10¼" (13.25 to 26 cm) depending on size, offering a classic, close-fitting silhouette
- Slouchy Crown: 7" to 12" (17.75 to 30.5 cm) depending on size, providing a relaxed, modern aesthetic
Knitting Techniques and Stitches
This intermediate-level knitting project employs circular knitting techniques, which are essential for creating seamless, tubular hat construction. The pattern utilizes standard knitting stitches appropriate for hat construction, allowing the crafter to work in the round to achieve a polished, professional finish without the need for seaming.
Materials and Yarn Requirements
The Lakeview Hat is designed to be worked in Aran or Worsted weight yarn, offering excellent stitch definition and a balanced fabric suitable for hats. The recommended yarn is Spirited Fibers 100% washable merino, which provides durability and easy care—an important consideration for family hats that require frequent washing.
Yarn yardage required: 1 to 2 skeins depending on size, with each skein containing 145 yards (133 meters) per 100 grams (3.5 ounces). Smaller sizes require only 1 skein, while larger sizes need 2 skeins.
Needles: US 8 (5.0 mm) 16-inch circular needle is specified for this project. The snug fit of the finished hat is intentional, designed to fit closely around the widest part of the head for optimal wear and comfort.
Project Summary
The Lakeview Hat is an excellent intermediate knitting project that combines practical design with creative flexibility. By offering multiple sizes and two crown options, this pattern provides crafters with the opportunity to customize a single design for different family members or to explore how crown height affects the overall appearance and drape of a finished hat. The use of washable merino yarn makes these hats practical for everyday wear across all age groups.
