Product Description
Our Knit Night Socks are destined to become a beginner knitter’s very first pair of socks and they’re just as much of a perfect fit for more experienced knitters looking for a pattern that comes with plenty of options. This pattern uses only a small set of techniques – you should be able to knit, purl, work short rows and do basic increases (M1R / M1L) – and our Knit Night Socks are worked from the toe up, which means you’ll be able to try them on as you go.
To give you a lot of options, we included instructions for seven sizes, two heel options and seven yarn-weight specific versions for each size, so you can use whatever yarn weight you’re most comfortable with. In addition, the pattern comes with lots of helpful information, e.g. on choosing the right size and on gauge.

Knit Night Socks by Verena Cohrs
What is Being Made
Knit Night is a sock pattern designed by Verena Cohrs, available as a downloadable PDF from The Wool Club. This design offers seven different size options with finished foot circumferences ranging from 15 cm to 22.5 cm (6 inches to 8.75 inches), making it suitable for various foot sizes from children to adults. The pattern is designed to be worn with 0 to 2.5 cm of negative ease for an optimal fit.
Craft and Techniques
This is a knitting project suitable for beginners. The socks are constructed using the circular knitting method, which allows for seamless construction in the round. The pattern accommodates various yarn weights and corresponding needle sizes, enabling knitters to customize their sock construction based on available materials and desired final dimensions.
Stitches and Construction
While specific stitch patterns are not detailed in the provided content, the Knit Night socks are worked on circular needles with a cable length of at least 80 cm (32 inches). The pattern includes seven versions (A through G), each paired with a specific needle size to achieve proper gauge. This modular approach allows knitters to select the version that best matches their yarn weight and desired fabric characteristics.
Materials Required
- Yarn: Approximately 100 to 200 grams depending on desired foot and leg length. The pattern accommodates multiple yarn weights including 4-ply, sport, DK, aran, and worsted. Recommended yarns include Retrosaria Mondim, Blacker Yarns Tamar 4-ply, and Blacker Yarns Mohair.
- Needles: Circular needles in sizes ranging from 2.25 mm (US 1) for Version A through 3.75 mm (US 5) for Version G, selected based on yarn weight and desired gauge.
- Notions: Darning needle for finishing, stitch markers for tracking pattern repeats, scrap yarn or stitch holders for holding stitches, tape measure for checking gauge and fit, and optional blocking tools.
Pattern Details
The Knit Night pattern provides flexibility through its seven size and needle options, allowing knitters to work with yarn weights from delicate 4-ply to heavier worsted weight. The beginner-friendly difficulty level makes this an accessible project for those new to sock knitting, while the variety of sizes ensures the pattern can be adapted to fit different recipients.
