Product Description
A comfortable fit with an addictive textured design down the arms and center back. You will find it knits up quickly! This has been knit holding yarns together to equal a DK weight, or with a single strand of DK weight yarn. Be creative, have fun with it. I have made the pattern #sizeinclusive with 13 sizes. The Kimberlee Pullover is worked seamlessly in the round from the top down with a textured shoulder, arm, and back panel. After the collar, the saddle shoulders are shaped by contiguous increases in every row, while the neck is shaped by short rows. Sleeve and body increases are worked up until the sleeve separation. The sleeve stitches are then placed on hold, underarm stitches are cast on, and you continue to work the body with increases to the bottom ribbing. After the body is completed, sleeve stitches are placed back on the needles and worked in the round from the top down to the cuff ribbing. Optional thumb hole.
Kimberlee Pullover by Susanne Talluri
What is Being Made
The Kimberlee Pullover is a knitted sweater designed by Susanne Talluri and available through Handmade By Zan Designs. This is a pullover-style jumper featuring a classic crew neckline construction. The pattern includes 13 different sizes ranging from finished bust circumferences of 35 inches (89 cm) up to 73.5 inches (187 cm), making it suitable for a wide range of body measurements. The sweater is designed to be worn with approximately 1.5 to 2 inches (4 to 5 cm) of positive ease at the bust for a comfortable, relaxed fit.
Knitting Techniques Used
This intermediate-level knitting project employs several key techniques. The sweater is constructed in the round using circular needles, which creates seamless fabric and allows for continuous knitting without seaming the body. The design features sleeve panel repeats, indicating the use of stitch pattern repeats that create visual interest along the sleeves. The pattern utilizes stitch markers strategically placed at the beginning of round, across the back panel, and within sleeve sections to help track pattern placement and shaping. The construction method allows knitters to work from the bottom up, with sleeve stitches managed either on double-pointed needles or longer circular needles depending on preference.
Stitches and Stitch Patterns
The primary stitch used throughout the Kimberlee Pullover is Stockinette Stitch (St st), which creates the smooth, classic fabric base for this sweater. Stockinette Stitch in the round produces the characteristic V-pattern texture that is a hallmark of knitted garments. The gauge for this project is 22 stitches by 30 rounds over 4 inches by 4 inches (10 cm by 10 cm) when worked in Stockinette Stitch on the main needles. The pattern also incorporates stitch pattern repeats specifically designed for the sleeve panels, adding textural or visual variation to the sleeve sections while maintaining the overall sweater structure.
Materials, Yarn Weight, and Needles
The Kimberlee Pullover is designed to be worked in DK (Double Knit) weight yarn, a medium-weight yarn that creates fabric with good drape and structure suitable for fitted sweaters. The specific yardage requirements vary by size but can be determined from the pattern schematic and finished measurements provided.
Needles required:
- Main needle: US 6 (4.0 mm) circular needle in 18 to 24 inches length, or the size needed to obtain the specified gauge
- Smaller needle: US 5 (3.75 mm) circular needle in 18 inches length, one size smaller than the main needle, typically used for ribbed cuffs and neckband
- Sleeve needles: Set of double-pointed needles (DPNs) or longer circular needle for working sleeves in the round
Additional notions:
- 11 stitch markers total: 1 for beginning of round, 2 for back panel placement, 4 for sleeve positioning, and 4 for sleeve panel repeat tracking
- Waste yarn or stitch holder for managing stitches during construction
The two-needle system (main and smaller) allows for proper gauge in the body while ensuring tight, elastic ribbing at the cuffs and neckline, which is essential for a well-fitting pullover sweater.
