Jupiter Shawl Redux

The Jupiter Wrap was inspired by mid-century ceramics which exude confidence, a simplicity of form and a uniquely stylized perspective of nature. Struck by repeated circular forms and perplexed with how they might be manifest in knitting, I’ve chosen a classic garter stitch rib to create strong vertical movement, and a fat Scandinavian-inspired cable to add a sense of buoyancy along the edge. These two aspects are laid on a bias-knit triangle to create an abstract, shape-shifting wrap, substantial like its ceramic forebears and sharing their color-block boldness and sense of scale.

The Jupiter Wrap is worked on the bias. The cabled edge is added as the wrap is cast off. Since the original publication in March 2017, I’ve added a narrow contrast edging that is worked from stitches picked up along the edge of the cable cast off.
