A cozy collar, practical pockets, and roomy sizing to accommodate layers make this jacket a wardrobe staple for any kid. Self-striping and solid yarns take turns in the starring role—with careful colour choices, this could be anything from a classic grandpa cardi to a wild and wonderful scene stealer.

This jacket is worked bottom up, in pieces and seamed. It has modified set-in sleeves with a short sleeve cap. Shoulders are joined using three-needle bind off. A decorative detail is worked on the back using intarsia. Stitches are picked up along the front edges and neckline for a ribbed edging and collar. Thoughtful short row shaping and progressively larger needles ensure that the collar will stay folded over. Pockets are worked as afterthought pockets, but a yarn placeholder is used to reserve the spot for them.
