Product Description

This pretty scarf can be worn in so many ways for your fashion needs. I made mine extra long, but you can make it as long/short as you like using the stitch multiple. The lace is a simple repeat and easily adjustable for the width too. I added fringe to mine, but of course you could leave it plain or add some other decorative touch!

Designed in #4 Weight Yarn Size: 12” x 80”, but easily adjusted with stitch multiple

My patterns are written in Standard American Terms and include pictures, stitch guides and explanations, as necessary, to make them easy to follow.

Jacqueline Scarf by Pattern Paradise

What Is Being Made

The Jacqueline Scarf is a lightweight crochet accessory measuring 12 inches wide by 80 inches long. This design creates an elegant, draping scarf suitable for layering or casual wear, offering versatile styling options for various seasons and occasions.

Craft and Primary Technique

This project is created using the crochet technique, making it an ideal choice for beginner-level crafters. Crochet uses a single hook to form loops and interlocking stitches, allowing for relatively quick project completion compared to knitting. The straightforward stitch pattern and manageable yarn weight make this scarf accessible to those new to fiber arts while still producing a polished, finished garment.

Stitches and Stitch Techniques Used

The Jacquerade Scarf employs several fundamental crochet stitches to create its structure:

  • Chain (ch) – The foundation stitch used to create the base loops
  • Single Crochet (sc) – A short, tight stitch that provides structure and density
  • Foundation Single Crochet (FSC) – A combined technique that creates both the foundation chain and first row of single crochet simultaneously, eliminating the need for a separate foundation
  • Double Crochet (dc) – A taller stitch that creates openness and drape in the fabric
  • Shell Stitch – Defined as (dc, ch1, dc, ch1, dc) worked into the same stitch, this decorative element adds texture and visual interest while maintaining lightweight construction
  • Slip Stitch (sl st) – Used to join rounds or secure stitches without adding height

The pattern gauge is established at 2 Shells x 5 Rows in pattern equaling 4 inches, providing a consistent measurement reference for proper sizing and fit.

Materials and Tools

The Jacqueline Scarf is constructed using worsted weight yarn (also classified as #5 weight), which offers a balance between drape and structure. The original pattern calls for Red Heart Italian Story Luce in the color Sabbia, requiring 2 balls of yarn with 218 yards each for a total yardage of 436 yards.

Essential tools include a US L/8.00mm crochet hook and a tapestry needle for weaving in yarn ends. The pattern recommends weaving ends as you work, a technique that minimizes finishing time and creates a neater final product.

Pattern Details and Construction Notes

This downloadable PDF pattern from Pattern Paradise includes complete written instructions with standard US crochet terminology. Key construction notes indicate that the beginning chain 1 does not count as a stitch, and row counts are provided in parentheses at the end of each row for easy tracking. The pattern is copyrighted by Pattern Paradise, and while finished scarves may be sold with proper attribution and a link back to the designer, the pattern itself is protected intellectual property.
