Product Description
The pattern comes with written knitting instructions for 4ply sweater 0 - 5 years and the Name chart pictured. Moniker name sweaters make great gifts for newborns. You can knit the back and sleeves before baby is born and finish the front once the name has been announced. The sweater can then be kept as a keepsake, hung in the child’s room, on the door or used to dress a toy. Not the name you wanted? No problem, leave a request on my site!
This chart can be used with any INSTARSIA pattern. All instarsia charts now have a colour count on them telling you how many squares of each colour make up the chart. This is helpful info if you want to uses the chart to make pixel crochet blankets, bead art or even quilting.
Intarsia Sage Moniker Chart Children's Sweater
What is Being Made
This is a children's sweater designed using the intarsia knitting technique to incorporate a personalized moniker or name chart into the garment. The sweater features a classic pullover construction with separate front and back panels, making it an ideal project for adding custom lettering or initials to a child's jumper.
Knitting Techniques Used
The sweater employs several fundamental knitting construction techniques:
- Intarsia knitting: A colorwork method used to create the moniker chart design, allowing for personalized lettering or initials to be incorporated into the sweater fabric
- Ribbed edging: 2x2 rib (knit 2, purl 2) is worked at the cuffs and hem for elasticity and a finished appearance
- Armhole shaping: Decreases are worked at each end of rows to create properly fitted armholes that accommodate a child's proportions
- Stocking stitch throughout: The main body fabric is worked in stocking stitch (stockinette stitch), creating a smooth, classic knit surface ideal for displaying the intarsia moniker design
Stitches Used
- Knit stitch (k): Forms the foundation of the stocking stitch fabric
- Purl stitch (p): Used in combination with knit stitches for the 2x2 rib pattern and in stocking stitch
- Purl two together (p2tog): A decrease stitch used to shape the armholes and create fitted shaping
- Cast on: The pattern uses a cast-on method to establish the initial stitches on the needles
Materials and Specifications
This pattern is designed for 4-ply yarn weight, which is a lightweight yarn suitable for children's garments. The pattern requires 2¾mm needles for the main stocking stitch sections and 3¼mm needles for the ribbed edging. The pattern is provided in multiple sizes to accommodate different children's measurements, with stitch counts ranging from 70 to 102 stitches for the cast-on row depending on the chosen size.
Difficulty Level
This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty. While the basic stitches and construction are relatively straightforward, the intarsia technique requires careful color changes and the ability to manage multiple yarn colors simultaneously, making it suitable for knitters with some experience beyond absolute beginner level.
Pattern Format
This is a downloadable PDF pattern designed by an independent designer specializing in intarsia work. The pattern provides detailed row-by-row instructions for constructing the back and front panels, with clear shaping instructions for armholes and finishing details.
