Product Description
The pattern comes with written knitting instructions for 4ply sweater 0 - 5 years and the Name chart pictured. Moniker name sweaters make great gifts for newborns. You can knit the back and sleeves before baby is born and finish the front once the name has been announced. The sweater can then be kept as a keepsake, hung in the child’s room, on the door or used to dress a toy. Not the name you wanted? No problem, leave a request on my site!
This chart can be used with any INSTARSIA pattern. All instarsia charts now have a colour count on them telling you how many squares of each colour make up the chart. This is helpful info if you want to uses the chart to make pixel crochet blankets, bead art or even quilting.
Intarsia - Eli Moniker Chart Children's Sweater
What is Being Made
This is a children's sweater featuring an intarsia chart design element. The pattern provides instructions for a fitted pullover sweater with shaping at the armholes and ribbed edging. Multiple size options are included to accommodate different children's measurements, making this a versatile garment suitable for various ages and fits.
Craft and Primary Technique
This is a knitting project designed for intermediate-level knitters. The pattern employs intarsia as the primary decorative technique, which involves knitting with multiple colors of yarn to create a pictorial or patterned design. The Eli Moniker Chart guides the placement and color changes throughout the garment construction. Intarsia work requires careful attention to color changes and managing multiple yarn strands to achieve a clean, professional appearance on the finished sweater.
Stitches Used
- Stockinette Stitch (st-st): The main stitch used throughout the body of the sweater, creating a smooth, classic knit fabric with a V-appearance on the right side
- 2x2 Ribbing (2x2 rib): A knit-purl combination worked at the cuffs and lower edge, alternating two knit stitches with two purl stitches to create elasticity and structure
- Purl Two Together (p2tog): A decrease stitch used for shaping the armholes and other fitted areas of the sweater
- Knit Stitches (k): Basic knit stitches forming the foundation of the stockinette sections
- Purl Stitches (p): Used in ribbing and as part of the intarsia color work transitions
Construction and Shaping
The sweater is constructed in pieces, with separate instructions for the Back and Front sections. The pattern includes armhole shaping achieved through strategic decreases, and ribbed edging provides a polished, fitted finish. The intarsia chart is incorporated into the front section, with specific row-by-row guidance for color placement and stitch counts at various stages.
Materials and Tools
This pattern is designed for 4-ply yarn weight, which creates a lightweight, finely-detailed fabric ideal for children's garments. The project requires 2¾mm needles for the main body work in stockinette stitch and 3¼mm needles for the ribbed sections. The intarsia technique requires multiple colors of yarn as indicated by the Eli Moniker Chart. Yarn amounts are calculated based on achieving the specified tension with the recommended yarn weight and needle size.
Pattern Format
This is a downloadable PDF pattern from an independent designer specializing in intarsia knitwear. The pattern includes multiple size options with stitch counts and row counts provided in brackets for each size variation, allowing knitters to customize the sweater to fit different children's dimensions.
