Product Description
The pattern comes with written knitting instructions for 4ply sweater 0 - 5 years and the Name chart pictured. Moniker name sweaters make great gifts for newborns. You can knit the back and sleeves before baby is born and finish the front once the name has been announced. The sweater can then be kept as a keepsake, hung in the child’s room, on the door or used to dress a toy. Not the name you wanted? No problem, leave a request on my site!
This chart can be used with any INSTARSIA pattern. All instarsia charts now have a colour count on them telling you how many squares of each colour make up the chart. This is helpful info if you want to uses the chart to make pixel crochet blankets, bead art or even quilting.
Intarsia - Arthur Moniker Chart Children's Sweater
What Is Being Made
This is a children's pullover sweater featuring an intarsia design with a personalized name chart. The garment is designed to be knitted flat in pieces and seamed together, making it suitable for customization with a child's name or moniker using the intarsia technique. The sweater includes a ribbed neckline and fitted armholes, creating a classic, well-structured children's garment.
Craft and Technique Overview
This project uses knitting as the primary craft. The sweater is constructed using the intarsia technique, which allows for the incorporation of a personalized name chart in a contrasting color. Intarsia knitting involves working with separate lengths of yarn for different colored sections, creating a design that appears to be woven into the fabric rather than applied on top. This technique produces a smooth, professional finish ideal for displaying custom moniker charts on children's garments.
Stitches and Construction Methods
The sweater is primarily worked in stockinette stitch (st-st), which creates a smooth, classic knit fabric. The ribbing at the neckline and cuffs is worked in 2x2 rib (alternating knit 2, purl 2), which provides elasticity and a finished appearance. The pattern includes decreasing techniques for shaping the armholes, with decreases worked at each end of rows to create proper garment fit. The back stitch is used for seaming pieces together after knitting is complete.
Materials and Yarn Specifications
This pattern is designed for 4-ply yarn weight, which is a light, versatile yarn suitable for children's garments. The pattern provides multiple size options with corresponding yarn yardage requirements, though specific yardage amounts are referenced as "average requirements when specified tension and yarn is used." Knitters will need 2¾mm needles for the main body and 3¼mm needles for ribbed sections, allowing for proper gauge and fabric drape. A stitch holder is required for holding stitches during construction.
Difficulty Level and Skill Requirements
This project is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for knitters with some experience. The intarsia technique requires understanding of color work and managing multiple yarn strands, while the shaping instructions demand familiarity with increases, decreases, and garment construction. The pattern includes multiple size options and detailed row-by-row instructions, supporting knitters through the construction process.
Pattern Features and Sizing
The sweater is available in multiple sizes to accommodate different children's measurements. The pattern provides specific stitch counts and row counts for each size variation, allowing for customization of length and width. The armhole shaping is graduated across sizes, ensuring proper fit for each garment dimension. The intarsia name chart can be personalized, making each sweater a unique, custom creation.
