Product Description
Inspired by Easter and Faberge eggs this design reminds me most of a Yoshi egg but also looks like something out of Spyro. I guess video games like spotty eggs.

Egg of Spots Knitting Chart by Instarsia
What Is Being Made
The Egg of Spots is a knitting chart design created by independent designer EJHeywood through Instarsia. This chart-only product provides a detailed pattern for incorporating a decorative egg motif with spot detailing into knitted projects. The design is suitable for knitters looking to add colorwork elements to their work using the instarsia technique.
Craft and Technique
This pattern utilizes instarsia knitting, a colorwork technique that involves knitting with multiple colors of yarn simultaneously. Unlike stranded colorwork methods, instarsia allows knitters to work with separate yarn sections for different colored areas, creating clean, professional-looking color changes without carrying yarn across the back of the work. This technique is particularly effective for larger motifs and designs that feature distinct color blocks, making it ideal for the Egg of Spots pattern.
The instarsia technique requires careful attention to yarn management and color placement. Knitters must coordinate different yarn colors for each section of the design, twisting yarns at color changes to prevent holes from forming. This method produces a finished fabric with minimal bulk on the reverse side, making it suitable for garments and projects where a smooth interior finish is desired.
Design Compatibility
A distinctive feature of Instarsia charts is their standardized sizing. The Egg of Spots chart is designed to be exactly the same dimensions as all other Instarsia patterns, allowing knitters to mix and match different chart designs within a single project. This flexibility enables creative customization and the ability to combine multiple Instarsia motifs in one piece.
Materials and Yarn Specifications
This pattern is designed for use with DK weight yarn, a medium-weight yarn that provides good stitch definition and is versatile for various garment types. Knitters will need appropriate needles sized for DK yarn, typically in the US 3-6 range, though specific needle recommendations may be included in the full pattern instructions accompanying this chart.
Skill Level
The Egg of Spots chart is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for knitters with foundational skills who are ready to expand their technical abilities. Knitters should be comfortable with basic knitting stitches and have experience reading knitting charts before attempting instarsia colorwork projects.
Format and Designer Information
This is a downloadable PDF chart only, providing the visual pattern needed for the Egg of Spots design.
