Product Description

Ikirouta is an updated take on the classic ski jumper. This top-down raglan sweater features wide cable panels on both the front and back pieces. A cozy, high turtleneck keeps you warm even in the coldest winter breezes.

Waist shaping gives this sporty sweater a slim look while the wide ribbing at the hem ensures a comfortable fit around the hips. The turtleneck, hem, and cuffs are all worked in 2x2 ribbing.

The sweater comes with two length options for the ribbed sleeve cuffs. The shorter one gives that classic sportswear look. If you suffer from cold hands, snuggle up with the longer, folder cuffs with optional thumb openings.

The pattern is written with both metric and US terminology. Both written and charted instructions are given for the cable pattern.

Gauge: 14.5 sts × 24 rows = 10 cm / 4" in stockinette on larger needles, blocked

What Is Being Made

Ikirouta is an updated take on the classic cabled ski jumper, designed as a top-down raglan sweater with contemporary styling. This advanced knitting project features a cozy, high turtleneck paired with wide cable panels on both the front and back pieces, creating a striking visual statement. The design combines sporty aesthetics with practical winter warmth, making it suitable for cold-weather wear.

Design Features and Construction

The sweater is constructed using a top-down raglan method, which allows for seamless shaping and the ability to try on the garment as you work. Waist shaping is incorporated throughout the body to create a slim, flattering silhouette, while wide ribbing at the hem ensures a comfortable and secure fit around the hips. The high turtleneck provides extra coverage and warmth for winter conditions.

The turtleneck, hem, and cuffs are all worked in 2x2 ribbing, creating a classic finished look. The pattern offers two distinct length options for the ribbed sleeve cuffs: a shorter cuff that delivers that classic sportswear aesthetic, or a longer, folded cuff design with optional thumb openings for those who experience cold hands. This flexibility allows knitters to customize the sweater to their personal needs and style preferences.

Knitting Techniques and Stitches

This advanced-level project utilizes several key knitting techniques. The primary stitch work features cable patterns, which are presented in both written and charted instructions to accommodate different knitting preferences. The cable panels are a defining design element, running vertically across the front and back of the sweater to create visual interest and texture.

2x2 ribbing is used extensively throughout the design, appearing in the turtleneck, hem ribbing, and cuffs. This ribbing technique creates elasticity and helps the garment maintain its shape during wear and washing. The top-down raglan construction method is an intermediate-to-advanced technique that requires understanding of increases and shaping as you work from the neckline downward.

Materials and Yarn

Ikirouta is designed to be worked in Aran weight yarn, a medium-heavy yarn weight that provides excellent stitch definition for cable work and creates a fabric with good structure and warmth. The recommended yarn is De Rerum Natura Cyrano, which is composed of 100% organic merino fiber. This natural fiber choice offers breathability, temperature regulation, and the softness characteristic of merino wool, making it ideal for a close-fitting garment like a turtleneck sweater.

Pattern Details and Sizing

The pattern is available in a comprehensive range of sizes: XS, S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL, and 5XL, ensuring accessibility for a wide variety of body types. The pattern is written with both metric and US terminology, making it accessible to international knitters regardless of their preferred measurement system. Both written and charted instructions are provided for the cable pattern, allowing knitters to follow whichever format they find most intuitive.

Format and Availability

Ikirouta is available as a downloadable PDF pattern, making it immediately accessible for knitters ready to begin their project. This format allows for easy printing and digital reference while working.
