I Love Winter! hat

This hat is worked in a lovely soft chunky merino yarn from Bergere de France. The smoothness of the yarn  gives great stitch definition to the cable and twist panel. 

The pattern is unusual as it is worked horizontally (around the head) rather than from the bottom up. In order to create the shaping for the crown, I've used short rows. If you've not previously used this way of shaping, this pattern is a good way to start. 

The cable and twist section is lined with stocking stitch so ears stay nice and cosy on a cold day.
