Design 1 – Hooded Scarf with Pockets

The hood is shaped and seamed so that its side edge is sewn neatly across the cast-off stitches at the top, creating a smooth, structured finish. The pockets are created using separately worked pocket linings — each lining is cast on and worked in stocking stitch before being held on a stitch holder and later incorporated into the main body of the scarf. Pocket borders are picked up and knitted from the cast-off stitches of the pocket opening, with additional stitches cast on at each end to allow the borders to be sewn neatly to the scarf fabric.

Construction Details

• Pocket linings are worked first on 10mm needles, cast on 15 stitches and worked for 23 rows in stocking stitch, then left on a stitch holder.
• Pocket borders are worked with right side facing on 8mm needles, picking up stitches from the cast-off pocket opening edges with additional cast-on stitches at each side for sewing allowance.
• The hood section is worked separately and its side edge is sewn across 21 cast-off stitches to close the top of the hood.
• Increases are worked evenly across a row within the pocket border to shape the trim.
