Product Description
The inspiration for this blanket came from a motif I designed a few years ago which I used in the centre of a cushion. I love the simplicity and texture of that motif, and it was only a few more steps in my mind before the other motifs for this blanket were designed: a series of hexagons weaving into their own web. There are 5 hexagon patterns and one half-hexagon, plus a border. The pattern was designed for a crochet-along (CAL) in early 2020. I used a 4ply yarn for this blanket. However, you may use any yarn you like as long as you use a suitable hook size. If you prefer to use DK yarn, I have provided yarn estimates in the pattern.
The size as made is 155cm by 165cm
Written in UK crochet terms. A US terms version is available on Ravelry.
Honeycomb Web Blanket by Agrarian Artisan
What is Being Made
The Honeycomb Web Blanket is a crocheted throw blanket featuring a geometric design inspired by natural hexagonal forms. The blanket is constructed from multiple hexagon motifs that interlock to create a cohesive web-like pattern, complemented by a finished border. This intermediate-level crochet project uses a sophisticated color palette of seven coordinating yarn shades to build visual depth and dimension throughout the piece.
Design Structure and Composition
The blanket pattern comprises five distinct hexagon patterns plus one half-hexagon, all arranged to weave together into their own interconnected web. The designer, Agrarian Artisan, developed this blanket concept from a hexagonal motif originally created for a cushion project, expanding the simple geometric form into a complete blanket design. The hexagons are strategically positioned to create a flowing, organic appearance despite their structured geometric shapes.
Crochet Techniques and Stitches
This pattern employs fundamental crochet techniques suitable for intermediate crafters. The hexagon motifs showcase the simplicity and textural appeal that drew the designer to the original motif concept. The construction method involves working individual hexagon shapes that are then assembled together, with careful attention to how each piece connects to its neighbors to form the unified web pattern. A border is added upon completion to frame and finish the blanket edges.
Materials and Yarn Specifications
The Honeycomb Web Blanket uses CoopKnits Socks Yeah! yarn, a premium blend of 75% Merino Wool and 25% Nylon. This fiber composition provides durability, warmth, and elasticity ideal for blanket projects. The yarn is supplied in 50g skeins with 212 meters per skein, classified as 4-ply (DK weight).
The color palette consists of seven carefully selected shades:
- Danburite (105) – Pale grey (PG) – 2 skeins
- Larimar (119) – Pale blue (PB) – 3 skeins
- Chryso (108) – Pale blue/green (PBG) – 4 skeins
- Beryl (107) – Blue/green (BG) – 5 skeins
- Topaz (113) – Deep blue (DB) – 6 skeins
- Malachite (110) – Green (G) – 4 skeins
- Melanite (121) – Deep grey (DG) – 1 skein
The total yarn requirement spans a gradient from cool greys and pale blues through deeper teals and greens, creating a sophisticated ombré effect across the finished blanket.
Tools Required
Crafters will need a 3.0mm (US D/3) crochet hook to work this pattern. A yarn needle is essential for weaving in ends and assembling the hexagon motifs. Stitch markers are listed as optional but recommended for tracking pattern repeats and maintaining accuracy throughout the construction process.
Difficulty Level and Skill Requirements
This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for crocheters with foundational skills who are ready to tackle multi-part projects involving motif assembly. The geometric hexagon shapes require consistent tension and attention to stitch counts, while the color work and assembly process demand organizational skills and pattern-reading ability.
