Product Description
This is pattern for a lovely light skinny scarf. Perfect for the spring to early summer season or even early fall. It's lacy without the (sometimes) daunting increases and decreases.
Something for the weekend and a change from the usual crocheted characters. It should get you in the mood for spring without having to part totally with your winter scarf comforter.
Really easy to knit and very beautiful stitch.
The finished scarf is approx 10 cm wide and about 180 cm long (4in x 6ft) but you could always make it shorter or longer to suit yourself.
The pattern uses less than a ball and half of yarn so knits up quickly and is a very satisfying project.
Skills required: knit stitch, cast on, cast off

Holy Moly Summer Cotton Skinny Scarf
What Is Being Made
The Holy Moly Summer Cotton Skinny Scarf is a lightweight, elegant knitted accessory designed by Penny Connor as an ideal summer layering piece. This skinny scarf pattern provides an accessible introduction to lace knitting techniques, making it suitable for knitters looking to expand their skills without the complexity of intricate shaping.
Craft and Difficulty Level
This is an intermediate-level knitting project that demystifies lace work by eliminating the intimidating increases and decreases typically associated with lace patterns. The pattern is structured to help knitters maintain stitch counts while developing confidence with openwork techniques, making it an excellent stepping stone for those new to lace knitting.
Techniques Used
- Lace knitting with simplified construction
- Professional finishing techniques for polished results
- Stitch count management throughout the pattern
Yarn and Materials
The pattern was created using Rowan Milk Cotton DK yarn, which provides an ideal drape and breathability for warm-weather wear. However, the design accommodates yarn substitutions: any DK weight yarn works beautifully, including bamboo yarn alternatives that offer similarly lovely drape and fluid movement. The lighter weight ensures the finished scarf remains comfortable and elegant for summer styling.
Pattern Support and Resources
The pattern includes Oliver Boliver's Tips throughout to assist with stitch counting accuracy and achieving a professional-quality finished garment. Designer Penny Connor welcomes feedback, yarn substitution suggestions, and finished project photos from knitters.
