What is Being Made

Gulf Waves is a crescent-shaped shawlette designed by Lesley Anne Robinson as part of a collaboration between Fuzzy Goat and Knit Graffiti Designs. This shawlette is inspired by the deep colors and textures of the Gulf of Mexico, the body of water separating South Texas and South Georgia. The finished piece measures 68 inches (173 centimeters) across the wingspan with a depth of 11 inches (28 centimeters) after blocking, making it a versatile accessory suitable for various occasions and seasons.

Techniques and Construction

Gulf Waves employs a thoughtful combination of knitting techniques to create visual interest and texture throughout the design. The shawlette utilizes garter stitch as a foundational element, providing structure and a classic textured appearance. One-color brioche knitting is incorporated to add dimensional depth and a luxurious quality to the fabric. Eyelet stockinette sections are worked into the pattern, creating delicate openwork details that enhance the shawlette's elegance and allow for drape.
