Product Description
***Designed during the Covid 19 Level 4 Lock Down in New Zealand in March 2020, as an easy, mindless & versatile project, able to be knit from stash.***This is a ONE PIECE design, including incorporated I-Cord edges.
There are various options for the design, including adaptation to a scarf/wrap/larger blanket/s.
The sample pictured is the Baby/Knee Rug/Lap Blanket Version and it was knit using 12 x 20 gm, fingering weight, speckled minis from an Advent Calendar, double stranded with a solid, fingering weight yarn.
Because of the nature of the pattern stitch this pattern is suitable for many types of yarn, and I think it would look particularly effective in solid or semi solids/tonal yarns.
BEGINNER FRIENDLY & also a great SCRAPPY PROJECT, it is my hope that this design will particularly appeal to knitters requiring a mindless project to sit down with, in a ‘happy place’, whenever the going feels particularly tough.

What Is Being Made
The Give Me Strength Blanket is a versatile knitted throw designed by Good to Go Knits Designs, available in multiple size options including a Baby/Lap Blanket version measuring approximately 69cm wide by 96cm long when unblocked. This downloadable PDF knitting pattern offers flexibility for crafters to create different blanket sizes using provided stitch count variations and custom calculation guidance.
Difficulty Level and Suitability
Classified as a beginner-friendly knitting project, the Give Me Strength Blanket is accessible to knitters new to the craft while remaining engaging for experienced makers. The pattern's straightforward construction makes it an ideal first blanket project for those building foundational knitting skills.
Knitting Techniques and Stitches
This blanket features a pattern stitch worked throughout, creating visual interest and texture in the finished piece. The design employs a double-stranded yarn technique, combining a speckled fingering weight yarn with a solid, subtly contrasting color to achieve dimensional color effects and enhanced visual depth. This two-yarn approach adds complexity to the aesthetic while maintaining beginner-level construction simplicity.
Yarn and Materials
The Baby/Lap Blanket version uses 12 mini skeins of 20 grams each in speckled fingering weight yarn, worked double-stranded alongside a solid contrasting yarn. The pattern accommodates multiple yarn weights, including 4-ply, DK, Aran, and Worsted weight options, allowing crafters to customize their project based on available materials and desired finished fabric characteristics.
Gauge and Needles
The Baby/Lap Blanket version works to a gauge of 20 stitches and 38 rows over 10cm (4 inches) in the pattern stitch, achieved using 4.5mm (USA size 7) needles. Accurate gauge is essential for achieving the intended blanket dimensions and fabric drape.
Pattern Flexibility
Beyond the Baby/Lap Blanket specifications, the pattern includes alternative stitch counts for different blanket sizes and provides guidance for calculating custom stitch counts, enabling knitters to adapt the design to their specific yarn weight choices and desired finished dimensions.
