Gavrinis

This shawl was inspired by the carvings found on stones in the Neolithic tomb on the island of Gavrinis in the Gulf of Morbihan in Brittany, France. These detailed carvings reminded me of fingerprints. I knit the motif described as a "shield".

The semi-circular shawl is knit from the top center out, starting with a few stitches and increasing. The size of the final shawl depends on the amount of yarn used, gauge, and blocking.

The samples were knit in West Yorkshire Spinners Signature 4-ply and Istex Einband, but you can use any lace weight or 4-ply yarn. A suggested yarn is shown below.
