Product Description

The Fleeting Autumn Throw is designed for the adventurous beginner. It is written to be knit in the round and completed with the steeking method to obtain the end result of a flat blanket. However, I have included instructions to knit the blanket flat, with a modified I-cord edge, as to ensure the pattern to be completed by any skill level.

The pattern includes charted and written instructions and can easily be made larger with extra pattern repeats.

The subtle texture of the blanket reveals intricate pathways of diamonds that draw in your eye. The blanket is finished with tassels down the steeked or I-cord sides of the blanket.

This blanket is made with super bulky yarn and is sure to keep you cozy and warm with the evening chill of Autumn.

What is Being Made

The Fleeting Autumn Throw is a large, cozy blanket designed by Stephanie Anderson and published by Simplie Bound. This knitted throw measures 70 inches in length by 56 inches in width after blocking, making it an ideal size for draping over furniture or using as a decorative blanket. The finished dimensions of 70" × 56" provide generous coverage suitable for sofas, beds, or as a standalone throw blanket for autumn and cooler seasons.

Difficulty Level and Skill Requirements

Rated as Advanced Beginner difficulty, this pattern is accessible to knitters who have mastered fundamental techniques but are ready to tackle larger projects. The intermediate complexity makes it an excellent choice for crafters looking to expand their skills while working with substantial yarn and needles.

Knitting Techniques and Stitches

The Fleeting Autumn Throw utilizes stockinette stitch as its primary stitch pattern, a foundational knitting technique that creates a smooth, classic fabric texture. The pattern involves working in the round using circular knitting needles, which is a common method for constructing large blankets and throws. The gauge for this project is 10 stitches × 15 rows over 4 inches in stockinette stitch when worked in the round, which helps ensure proper finished dimensions and fabric drape.

Materials and Yarn Specifications

This throw requires 12 skeins of Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick yarn in weight 6 (super chunky), with each skein providing 106 yards and weighing 6 ounces. The total yardage needed is approximately 1,272 yards in your main color. If you wish to add tassels as shown in the sample photograph, you will need an additional 212 yards in a contrasting color for visual interest and embellishment.

Needles and Tools

The pattern calls for US 15 (10.0 mm) circular knitting needles measuring 40 to 60 inches or longer for the main construction. Additional US 11 circular needles are also required, likely for ribbing, edging, or other sections of the pattern. Circular needles of this length are essential for accommodating the large number of stitches needed to create a throw of this size.

Yarn Weight and Working Properties

The super chunky weight yarn (weight 6) used in this pattern works up quickly, making it an efficient choice for completing a large project in a reasonable timeframe. Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick is a practical fiber blend that combines the warmth of wool with the easy-care properties of acrylic, offering durability and washability for a frequently-used throw blanket.

Pattern Notes and Finishing

The finished dimensions provided (70" × 56") are achieved after blocking, which is an important step in the finishing process. Blocking helps even out stitches and sets the fabric to its intended measurements. Crafters are encouraged to tag their finished projects on social media using @simpliebound and the hashtags #simpliebound and #fleetingautumnthrow to share their creations with the designer community.
