Product Description
This is a pattern for a crochet flail - a type of medieval weapon. In this pattern, only the spikes and 2 chain links are sewn, the rest is join-as-you-go, with some photos for visual explanation. With a G/4.25mm hook and worsted weight yarn, my flail came out with a 13” handle, and 28” from handle base to point, fully stretched. Gauge is not important for this project, as long as the stitches are tight enough to hold stuffing- your flail may come out a slightly different size.

Flail Amigurumi Crochet Pattern
What Is Being Made
The Flail Amigurumi is a crocheted toy design created by Kimberly Anne of High Fiber Designs. This pattern produces a three-dimensional stuffed toy in the shape of a flail—a medieval weapon featuring a handle with an attached weighted head. The finished amigurumi combines two distinct color sections: a handle portion and a metal-colored head, creating a playful, sculptural craft project suitable for display or play.
Crochet Techniques and Construction
This intermediate-level crochet project employs fundamental amigurumi construction methods. The pattern uses standard crochet techniques to build the toy in separate components that are then assembled together. The design requires working in rounds to create the cylindrical handle and the rounded head form, with strategic increases and decreases to shape each section. Stuffing is incorporated during construction to create the firm, three-dimensional structure characteristic of quality amigurumi toys.
Stitches Used
The pattern is written using US crochet terminology. While the PDF content provided does not list every individual stitch in detail, amigurumi patterns of this type typically employ fundamental stitches including single crochet for tight, dense fabric and slip stitches for joining rounds and securing color changes. The intermediate difficulty level suggests the pattern may incorporate techniques such as invisible decreases to create smooth shaping and potentially some color work to distinguish the handle from the flail head.
