Product Description
This pattern includes both English and German versions. Dieses Muster enthält eine englische und eine deutsch Fassung.
If you like this, but prefer gloves, check out the Wraparound Gloves! Both patterns are also available together as the WraparoueBook.
These fingerless mittens will keep you double warm because of the extra layer! On milder days you can wear the mitts without the wraps. And there are some more options for variations: You could use 2 solid colour yarns, if you prefer. Or use the variegated for the wraps, and the solid for the mittens. And if you enjoyed the knit: knit lots more wraps and mittens, and combine them differently each day!
There are 2 sizes: Women’s Medium best fits a hand circumference of about 19cm / 7½” above thumb, and Women’s Large one of 20cm / 7⅞”.
The pattern is for fingering weight yarn.
Fingerless Wraparounds by Dagmar Mora
What Is Being Made
Fingerless Wraparounds are a versatile two-piece knitted accessory system consisting of fingerless mittens paired with coordinating wraps. This innovative design allows for multiple styling options: wear the mittens and wraps together for extra warmth on cold days, or wear the mittens alone on milder days. The modular nature of this project encourages crafters to knit multiple sets of mittens and wraps in different color combinations, creating a flexible wardrobe of mix-and-match pieces.
Design Versatility and Color Options
The pattern accommodates several creative variations. Knitters can work with two solid color yarns throughout, or combine a variegated yarn for the wraps with a solid color yarn for the mittens. This flexibility makes the project accessible to different aesthetic preferences and allows for personalized customization. The suggested materials include variegated yarn such as Regia 4-ply Design Line Kaffee Fassett in Mirage Jungle #4351 (colour A) paired with solid color yarn such as Regia 4-ply in Kardinal #1078 (colour B).
Knitting Techniques Used
This intermediate-level knitting project employs fundamental techniques suitable for knitters with some experience. The pattern incorporates standard increases and decreases to shape the mittens and wraps, including make one stitch (m1k) for increases and knit two together (k2tog) for decreases. The construction utilizes both knit and purl stitches to create texture and structure. Marker placement (pm) helps track pattern repeats and shaping points throughout the knitting process.
Stitches and Stitch Work
- Knit stitch (k) – the foundational stitch forming the primary fabric
- Purl stitch (p) – used in combination with knit stitches for texture variation
- Make one stitch and knit (m1k) – an increase technique for shaping
- Knit two together (k2tog) – a decrease technique for tapering
- Pass two stitches over (p2sso) – an advanced decrease method
- Cast on (co) – the foundation row for beginning the project
Materials and Tools
This project requires approximately 50 grams (210 to 230 yards) of variegated 4-ply yarn and approximately 50 grams (210 to 230 yards) of solid color 4-ply yarn. The recommended needle size is 2.5mm/US size 1½. Knitters will need long needles or circular needles in this size, plus a set of seven double-pointed needles (dpn's) in 2.5mm/US size 1½ for working the smaller circumference sections of the mittens. The 4-ply yarn weight creates a lightweight, refined fabric suitable for layering without bulk.
