Fake-diamond stitch

Our brain is receptive to fake news. This easy pattern I used for socks consisting of crossed stitches creates this illusionary effect. Our brain connects the crossings making the pattern seem like an elaborate diamond design on the knitted background.I used some leftovers I had of this summery Mouliné cotton in beautiful pastel colours to knit these socks in the illusion-pattern. Even though the thick yarn might not be ideal for socks and the finished socks are thicker than usual, that is exactly what makes them ideal for summer evenings on cold floors.
