Elisa is an advanced-level knitted sweater designed by Jody Long. This downloadable knitting pattern creates a fitted pullover sweater with sophisticated cable and textured stitch detailing. The design is suitable for experienced knitters who are comfortable working with complex stitch patterns and cable techniques.

What Is Being Made

The Elisa sweater is a women's pullover knit garment designed to fit bust measurements of 81, 86, or 91 centimeters (32, 34, or 36 inches), with finished bust measurements of 91, 96, or 101 centimeters (36, 38, or 40 inches). The sweater features a length from the top of the shoulders measuring 64, 65, or 66 centimeters (25¼, 25¾, or 26 inches), with sleeve seams of 43 centimeters (17 inches) across all sizes.

Knitting Techniques Used

This pattern employs several advanced knitting techniques that define its sophisticated construction:

  • Cable knitting – The pattern includes multiple cable crossing techniques to create textured, dimensional stitch patterns

  • Purl and knit combinations – Mixed stitch patterns create textured surfaces within cable sections

Stitches and Stitch Abbreviations

  • P2tog (Purl Two Together) – A purl-based decrease
  • P3tog (Purl Three Together) – A more aggressive purl decrease for shaping
  • K3tog (Knit Three Together) – A knit-based triple decrease

Materials and Yarn

The Elisa sweater is worked in Heritage Double Knit yarn in the shade Duck Egg. The yardage requirements are approximately 152, 152, and 160 grams (7, 7, and 8 x 100g balls) depending on the size selected. Double knit yarn provides excellent stitch definition for the cable and textured patterns featured in this design, allowing the intricate stitch work to be clearly visible in the finished garment.
