Product Description
These Egg Cosies are made using up any oddments of yarn that you have lying around and you never know what to do with. These were knitted up in double knitting yarn and can be knitted up in about an hour depending on how quick or how experienced you are I have put a loop on the top but you could always put a pom pom on if you wish. You could always leave them plain.
I knitted these for my Grandchildren who are a little slow at getting to the table. Also, these are an ideal gift to cover a chocolate covered egg at Easter time.
So easy to make and will probably only cost you your time. Bonus!
Egg Cosy Knitting Pattern by Pearly's Pompom
What is Being Made
These egg cosies are small, decorative knitted covers designed to fit over boiled eggs and egg cups, making them an ideal table setting accessory or Easter gift. The finished egg cosy measures approximately 8cm in length and 7cm in width, providing a snug fit for standard egg cups. These charming pieces are perfect for keeping boiled eggs warm while adding a handmade touch to your table setting, and they work equally well as decorative covers for chocolate eggs during Easter celebrations.

This beginner-friendly knitting project is designed to be completed in approximately one hour, making it an excellent quick-knit pattern suitable for crafters of all experience levels. The pattern utilizes basic knitting techniques and straightforward construction methods, allowing new knitters to build confidence while creating a practical and charming finished object. The designer encourages customization and creative finishing options, making each egg cosy unique to the maker's preferences.
Stitches Used
The pattern employs fundamental knitting stitches including:
- Knit (K) - the basic knit stitch forming the primary fabric structure
- Purl (P) - used to create texture and pattern variation
- Knit into back (Kb1) - a stitch variation for added texture or shaping
Materials and Yarn Specifications
This pattern is designed to use double knitting (DK) weight yarn, making it an ideal project for using up yarn oddments and scraps from your stash. The designer specifically recommends using any leftover DK yarn you have available, making this an economical and sustainable crafting project. You will need one pair of UK8/4mm needles and a large eye tapestry needle for finishing and weaving in ends.
Tension and Gauge
The pattern provides a rough tension guide of 22 stitches by 30 rows over 10cm by 10cm in double knitting yarn. This gauge information helps ensure your finished egg cosy matches the intended dimensions, though the designer notes this is a general guide and variations are acceptable for this forgiving project.
Finishing Options
The pattern offers flexibility in finishing touches. The designer includes a loop on the top of the egg cosy as the standard finish, but crafters are encouraged to personalize their creation by adding a pom pom instead, or leaving the top plain for a minimalist aesthetic. This customization option allows each maker to create egg cosies that reflect their individual style preferences.
