Product Description

Pattern Description The Dottie Bonnet is so much fun to make and so easy too. Made from a single rectangle shape using single crochet and puff stitches, it is a wonderful beginner project. When the rectangle is complete, the bonnet is folded in half and a seam is made down the back of the bonnet. Next, the bottom and front edging is stitched and lastly the straps. Simple! The Dottie Bonnet looks amazing with the Dottie Dress which is pictured in the photos. Happy puff stitching!

Dottie Bonnet Crochet Pattern by The Moule Hole

What Is Being Made

The Dottie Bonnet is a beginner-friendly crochet hat design created by The Moule Hole. This bonnet-style hat is an ideal project for those new to crochet, offering a straightforward construction that produces a finished garment suitable for gifting or personal wear.

Crochet Techniques and Construction

This pattern employs fundamental crochet techniques appropriate for beginners. The construction relies on basic shaping methods that build the bonnet structure from the crown downward. The design incorporates textural elements through strategic stitch placement, creating visual interest while maintaining accessibility for newer crocheters.

Stitches Used

  • Single Crochet (sc) – The primary stitch forming the foundation and body of the bonnet, worked consistently to achieve the specified gauge
  • Chain Stitch (ch) – Used for foundational chains and creating spaces within the pattern structure
  • Puff Stitch – A decorative stitch incorporated into the design for added texture and visual appeal, with detailed explanation provided in the pattern notes

Materials and Tools Required

This pattern calls for DK weight yarn, a lightweight yarn category ideal for creating fitted, delicate garments. The designer used Rico Baby Classic DK in the Lavender colorway (shade 73) for the photographed sample. Each 50-gram skein provides 165 meters or 180 yards of yardage. A 4.00mm (U.S. size G/6) crochet hook or the size needed to obtain proper gauge is required. A tapestry needle is necessary for weaving in yarn ends and finishing the garment.

Gauge and Sizing

The pattern specifies a gauge of 20 stitches and 20 rows equals 10 centimeters by 10 centimeters (4 inches by 4 inches) when worked in single crochet. Achieving this gauge is essential for proper fit and finished dimensions. A yarn quantity chart is included in the pattern to help crocheters determine how much yardage they will need based on their chosen size.
