Diamond Sweater – P193 by OGE Knitwear Designs
What is Being Made
The Diamond Sweater – P193 is a children's pullover sweater designed by OGE Knitwear Designs. This knitted garment is available in seven sizes, ranging from 1 year old through 11-12 years old, making it a versatile pattern for growing children. The sweater features a classic construction with set-in sleeves and is worked primarily in the round for efficient construction.
Techniques Used
This intermediate-level knitting pattern employs several key techniques to create the finished sweater. The garment is worked in the round using circular needles, which allows for seamless construction on the body and sleeves. The pattern incorporates stitch markers—including one in a contrast colour—to help track pattern repeats and shaping points throughout the knitting process. The diamond motif that gives this sweater its name is created through strategic stitch placement and color work or textural variations. Sleeve cap shaping is included to create a properly fitted armhole and sleeve head. The pattern requires basic finishing skills, including sewing in yarn ends with a darning needle to complete the garment.
Stitches Used
The primary stitch structure for the Diamond Sweater – P193 is stocking stitch (also known as stockinette stitch), which creates the smooth, classic knit fabric that serves as the foundation for this sweater. Stocking stitch is worked by alternating knit and purl rows when working flat, or by knitting every round when working in the round, as this pattern does. The diamond pattern is incorporated into this stocking stitch base, likely through increases and decreases or color changes that create the visual diamond motif across the sweater body.
Materials Required
Yarn: The Diamond Sweater – P193 is designed to be worked in Double Knit weight yarn (also called Light Worsted). The pattern is flexible regarding yarn brand, as long as the knitter achieves the correct gauge. Double Knit yarn is a versatile mid-weight option that works well for children's garments, providing good drape and durability.
Needles and Notions: The pattern is worked on 3.75 mm (US 5 / UK 9) needles to achieve the specified gauge. Eight stitch markers are required, with one being in a contrast colour to serve as a round marker or pattern indicator. A darning needle is essential for sewing in the yarn ends after the sweater is complete.
Gauge and Sizing Details
The pattern specifies a gauge of 22 stitches by 30 rounds equals 10 cm (4 inches) when worked in stocking stitch on 3.75 mm needles. Achieving the correct gauge is essential for proper fit across all seven sizes.

This pattern is suitable for knitters who have completed several basic projects and are ready to tackle garment construction with shaping.
