Product Description
This elegant dress is made in strips of motifs that are joined together as you work. Its worked from the hips down, then after the motifs are finished the bodice is made from the hips up. Even though the sizes are all with a 6" difference, the motifs have a lot of ease so pick the size closest to what you need.
This pattern would be best for those familiar with joining as you go.
These are written instructions that include three different sizes of the same motif, directions of where and when to join the motifs. I highly recommend reading through the instructions before starting.

Delightful Dahlia Dress by Brandi Isham
What is Being Made
The Delightful Dahlia Dress is an advanced-level crochet garment designed by Brandi Isham. This dress is constructed using a modular approach, beginning at the hips and building upward through strips of motifs that are joined together as you work. The design features a dahlia flower motif as its primary design element, creating a textured and dimensional appearance throughout the garment.
Construction Technique
This dress employs a strip-based construction method where individual motifs are crocheted and then joined together during the working process rather than assembled afterward. This technique allows for seamless integration of motifs and creates a cohesive fabric structure. The pattern is worked in rounds, starting from the hips and progressing upward to form the bodice of the dress. The designer recommends weaving in ends as you work to minimize finishing tasks at the end of the project.
Crochet Stitches Used
- Double Crochet (dc): The primary stitch used throughout the motif construction
- Chain Stitch (ch): Used for spacing and shaping, including chain-3 and chain-1 spaces that create the open, lacy quality of the dahlia motif
- Slip Stitch (sl st): Used to join rounds and create the ring foundation
- Picot: A decorative stitch created by chaining 3 and slipping into the 3rd chain from the hook, adding embellished detail to the design
Motif Structure
The small dahlia motif is constructed over five rounds, beginning with a ring formed by chaining 4 and slip stitching into the first chain (or using a magic ring as an alternative). Each round builds upon the previous one, creating increasingly larger petal-like formations. The motif reaches a finished diameter of 6 inches at medium gauge, providing substantial visual impact when multiple motifs are joined together.
