Product Description
My Daisies for Days Pillow is inspired by the daisy garland that I named by crochet Instagram after! It is composed of eight rows of daisy hexagons. The join as you go method is used to join them. The pillow is seamed on the inside, so the joining seam is hidden inside of the pillow. Five buttons hold the pillow together, and allow it to be taken on and off of the pillow insert. There are pictures included throughout the pattern to demonstrate all of the steps! There is also a chart for the hexagons. I used Patons Grace cotton DK yarn, but any DK weight yarn will work. You will need one ball of the color of the centers of the flowers, two balls of the color of the petals of the flowers, and five balls of the background color. You will also need five buttons, and a 12 by 20 in pillow insert.
Daisies for Days Pillow by Maggie Trunkhill
Project Overview
The Daisies for Days Pillow is a crochet cushion design inspired by the daisy garland that forms the namesake of designer Maggie Trunkhill's crochet brand. This intermediate-level project combines modular hexagon construction with functional pillow design, creating a decorative cushion cover that wraps around a standard pillow insert.
What Is Being Made
This pattern creates a removable pillow case composed of crocheted hexagonal motifs. The finished pillow cover features a button closure system that allows the case to be easily removed from the pillow insert for washing or changing. The design uses a total of thirty-six full daisy hexagons and eight half hexagons, which are joined together to form the complete pillow cover. The seams are strategically hidden within the right and left sides of the pillow for a polished appearance.
Construction Techniques
This pattern employs the join as you go method, a technique that allows crocheters to join hexagons during the construction process rather than assembling separate pieces afterward. This approach creates a more seamless integration between motifs and reduces finishing work. The completed hexagon assembly is then wrapped around the pillow insert, and the seams are concealed along the sides. Five buttons serve as both functional closures and design elements, holding the pillow case securely to the insert while allowing for easy removal.
Stitches and Techniques
While specific stitch names are not detailed in the provided pattern excerpt, the design features daisy-themed hexagonal motifs that are crocheted using standard crochet stitches appropriate for DK weight yarn. The pattern includes charts for both full and half hexagons, along with step-by-step photographs throughout to guide crafters through the construction process. This visual support makes the intermediate-level project more accessible to experienced crocheters.
