Product Description

This listing is for a pattern, not a finished item.

The textured surface of this cloth is provided by the use of the crunch stitch aka moss stitch. It produces a plush weave that is great for minimal soap usage and is great for stuck on food removal.

The use of cotton yarn for this pattern ensures a cloth that won't smell and is super absorbent. It is also soft and the weave supports a gentle exfoliation that is good for your skin.

Each cloth is approximately 8 in square, some minimal variation is natural depending on how closely you stick to the prescribed gauge.

This is an easy pattern that works up quickly and is fun to do! This pdf includes a 2nd version of this dishcloth featuring 6 stripes, that was not provided in the free copy on my blog.

If you have any questions regarding this pattern please contact me and I will be happy to answer any and all questions you have.

Crunch Stitch Crochet Dishcloth by Caitlin's Contagious Creations

What Is Being Made

The Crunch Stitch Crochet Dishcloth is a beginner-friendly crochet project designed to create a practical, finished dishcloth measuring approximately 8 inches by 8 inches. This downloadable PDF pattern from independent designer Caitlin's Contagious Creations offers crafters an accessible introduction to crochet techniques while producing a functional kitchen textile suitable for everyday use.

Crochet Techniques and Construction

This dishcloth pattern employs fundamental crochet techniques appropriate for beginners. The construction begins with a foundation chain of 34 stitches, establishing the width of the piece. The pattern uses basic crochet methods to build rows systematically, creating a dense, absorbent fabric ideal for dishcloths. The crunch stitch technique referenced in the pattern name adds textural interest while remaining accessible to new crocheters learning foundational skills.

Stitches Used

The Crunch Stitch Dishcloth incorporates two primary crochet stitches:

  • Slip Stitch (SS) – Executed by inserting the hook into a stitch, yarning over, and drawing the yarn through both the stitch and the loop on the hook in a single motion. This stitch creates a flat join and is commonly used for finishing edges and connecting rounds.
  • Half Double Crochet (HDC) – Worked by yarning over, inserting the hook into the designated stitch, yarning over and drawing up a loop (creating three loops on the hook), then yarning over and pulling through all loops simultaneously. This mid-height stitch provides structure and density to the fabric.

Materials and Yarn Specifications

The pattern calls for Peaches and Cream Cotton Yarn, a worsted weight yarn ideal for dishcloths due to its absorbency and durability. The designer's samples showcase versatility across multiple colorways, including Fresh Lilac, Ocean Coral, Forest Green, Purple, Bright Blue, and Red, allowing crafters to customize their finished projects. An H8/5 mm crochet hook is required for this project, paired with a tapestry or yarn needle for weaving in ends and finishing details.

Gauge and Sizing

The pattern specifies a gauge of 6 stitches by 6 rows equaling 1.5 inches by 1 inch. This gauge measurement is essential for achieving the intended finished dimensions of approximately 8 inches by 8 inches. Maintaining proper tension and stitch consistency throughout the project ensures the dishcloth reaches the designed size and exhibits the correct fabric density for optimal functionality.

Skill Level

Classified as a beginner project, the Crunch Stitch Crochet Dishcloth is designed for crocheters new to the craft or those seeking to practice fundamental techniques. The straightforward stitch combination, clear structure, and manageable finished size make this pattern an excellent choice for building confidence and developing consistent tension and technique.
