Product Description

This pattern is for a crochet soap sock worked in the round. It is a very quick and easy pattern to work up. The sock will fit most standard bars of soap.

The texture of the sock is thicker than the knit version for a more exfoliating experience. You will be able to make multiple soap socks from one skein of yarn. If you are going to substitute yarn I recommend using 100% cotton. This will make the sock reusable between bars of soap and easy to clean.

Crochet Soap Sock by Laura Ann

What Is Being Made

The Crochet Soap Sock is a small, textured crocheted accessory designed to hold soap bars during bathing or showering. This quick and beginner-friendly project creates a functional soap holder with an exfoliating texture that is thicker than its knit counterpart, making it ideal for gentle skin exfoliation while using bar soap. The finished sock measures approximately 5¼ inches by 2¾ inches, making it a compact and practical addition to any bathroom.

Techniques Used

This crochet pattern is worked in the round, a fundamental crochet technique that creates seamless, circular or tubular fabric by working consecutive rounds without turning. Working in the round is an excellent method for creating three-dimensional items like socks and allows for smooth, continuous construction. The pattern also features a specialty stitch technique called a Dtc Cluster stitch, which is fully explained within the pattern instructions to help crocheters understand and execute this decorative element.

Stitches Used

The Crochet Soap Sock utilizes fundamental crochet stitches suitable for beginners:

  • Chain (Ch): The foundation stitch used to begin the pattern
  • Single Crochet (Sc): A short, tight stitch that creates dense, durable fabric
  • Half Double Crochet (Hdc): A medium-height stitch that provides structure and texture
  • Double Crochet (Dc): A taller stitch used for varied texture and drape
  • Slip Stitch (Sl St): Used to join rounds and create seamless transitions
  • Dtc Cluster Stitch: A specialty stitch featured in the pattern overlay for added visual interest

Materials

The Crochet Soap Sock pattern calls for worsted weight yarn, which is a medium-weight yarn ideal for creating fabric with good structure and drape. The designer recommends KnitPicks Dishie Yarn or Dishie Multi Yarn for both the main sock and the coordinating cord. The pictured example uses Aquarium for the soap sock and Swan for the cord. Crocheters will need an H 5mm crochet hook for the main sock and a G 4.25mm crochet hook for the cord, allowing for appropriate gauge and tension control across different sections of the project.

Difficulty Level

This pattern is rated as beginner difficulty, making it an excellent choice for crocheters new to the craft or those seeking a quick, confidence-building project. The straightforward construction, simple stitch combinations, and manageable sizing ensure that even novice crocheters can successfully complete this functional and attractive soap sock.
