Product Description
I've been listening to my boyfriend and brother rant and rave about the game, among us, for months now. So I finally downloaded it and gave it a go. I must say that I did enjoy it, however, I enjoyed designing a pattern for the avatars so much more.
Crochet Among Us Key Chains by Biosha Thompson
Product Overview
These adorable crochet Among Us key chains are small, beginner-friendly amigurumi-style accessories inspired by the popular game. Each key chain features the iconic character design with a rounded body and distinctive mask, perfect for personalizing bags, keys, or gifting to fans of the game.
What Is Being Made
The project creates a complete Among Us character key chain consisting of two main components: a stuffed body formed from two crocheted legs joined together, and a separate mask piece that attaches to the body. The finished piece is a compact, three-dimensional amigurumi figure suitable for use as a key chain accessory.
Crochet Techniques Used
- Magic loop method: Used to start both legs with a closed center, creating a seamless beginning for the amigurumi pieces
- Increases (inc): Applied in the first round of each leg to expand stitches from the magic loop
- Decreases (dec): Used in the final rows to taper and close the legs
- Stuffing and shaping: The legs are filled with stuffing material to create three-dimensional form
- Color changes: Multiple yarn colors are introduced at specific points, particularly for the mask details in grey and black
- Seaming: Pieces are joined using a yarn needle to attach the mask to the body
Stitches Used
- Chain (ch): Foundation stitch used for the mask base
- Single crochet (sc): Primary stitch throughout the pattern for creating dense, structured fabric in both legs and mask
- Slip stitch (sl st): Used to join rounds and create color transitions around the mask
Materials Required
This project uses Vinnis 100% cotton yarn in DK weight (50 g, 119 m per ball). You will need yarn in your choice of main color for the body, plus white, gray, and black for the mask details and facial features. A 3.25 mm crochet hook is used throughout. Additional supplies include a yarn needle for seaming and weaving in ends, scissors, and your choice of stuffing material to fill the legs and create structure.
Difficulty Level
Rated as a beginner project, this pattern is accessible to those new to crochet. While it involves basic amigurumi techniques like the magic loop and color changes, the simple stitch repertoire and straightforward construction make it an excellent introduction to creating small stuffed crochet figures.
Pattern Structure
The pattern is organized by component. Each leg is worked separately using the magic loop to begin, then increased and worked in rows of single crochet before being decreased and closed off. The mask is constructed separately, starting with a chain foundation and worked in rounds with strategic color changes using grey and black yarn to create the characteristic mask appearance, including embroidered details added with a yarn needle.
