Cinderella Knitted Dishcloths

What is Being Made

The Cinderella dishcloths are small, nearly square knitted textiles designed for kitchen use. Each dishcloth measures approximately 21×22 cm (8.3 x 8.7 inches), making them practical for everyday dishwashing and cleaning tasks. The pattern provides six different color combination options, allowing crafters to create coordinating sets or use up yarn leftovers in creative ways.

Craft and Technique

This is a knitting project suitable for beginner level crafters. The dishcloths are worked using fundamental knitting techniques with straightforward stitch patterns. The design emphasizes resourcefulness by utilizing yarn leftovers, making this an excellent project for stash management and sustainable crafting practices.

Stitches and Pattern Details

The pattern employs basic knitting abbreviations including cast on (CO) and slip stitch (sl st) techniques. The stitch pattern is repeated throughout the dishcloths, with approximately 2 meters (2.2 yards) of yarn required for every 2 rows worked in the chosen pattern. Six distinct color combination patterns are provided within the design, offering flexibility for personal customization or inspiration-based variations.

Materials and Specifications

  • Yarn: Cotton yarn in 8/4 weight (also known as 4-ply cotton). Compatible brands include Mayflower and Hjertegarn, though any matching cotton yarn in this weight works well.
  • Yarn Quantity: Approximately 35 grams or 1.25 ounces per dishcloth
  • Needles: 3.0 mm (US size 2.5) knitting needles
  • Gauge: 28 stitches and 46 rows equal 10 cm (4 inches) when worked in pattern with the specified needles and yarn

Additional Notes

The pattern recommends weighing yarn leftovers before beginning to ensure sufficient yardage. Crafters should verify their personal gauge and adjust needle sizes accordingly if needed—using smaller needles for tighter gauge or larger needles for looser gauge. The cotton 8/4 yarn weight provides durability and absorbency ideal for dishcloth applications.
