Chunky Cabled Vest by Dawn Brocco
Project Overview
The Chunky Cabled Vest is an intermediate-level knitting pattern designed by Dawn Brocco. This downloadable PDF pattern offers a versatile waistcoat design available in four different sizes, making it suitable for various body measurements and fit preferences. The vest combines classic cable work with chunky yarn construction to create a textured, visually striking garment.
What Is Being Made
This pattern produces a sleeveless vest or waistcoat featuring prominent cable stitch detailing. The design is structured as a fitted garment that works well as a layering piece or standalone top. The four-size range allows knitters to customize the fit for different body types and desired wearing ease.
Yarn and Materials
The Chunky Cabled Vest is designed specifically for Bollicine Revolution yarn, a specialty chunky-weight yarn that offers unique properties. Revolution yarn is characterized by its high yardage relative to weight, which means the finished garment will be lighter and less dense than typical chunky-weight projects. This makes the vest more wearable and comfortable while maintaining the visual impact of chunky yarn construction. Knitters will need appropriate needles sized for chunky yarn, as specified in the pattern instructions.
Knitting Techniques and Stitches
The primary stitch technique featured in this design is cable knitting, which creates the dimensional, twisted texture that defines the vest's aesthetic. Cable stitches involve crossing groups of stitches over one another to produce raised, rope-like patterns on the fabric surface. This intermediate-level project requires competency with cable techniques, including proper cable crossing and stitch management.
- Cable stitches form the main decorative elements throughout the garment
- Intermediate knitting skills are necessary for executing cable crossings accurately
- The pattern requires understanding of garment shaping and waistcoat construction
- Knitters should be comfortable reading cable charts and following pattern instructions
Design Characteristics
The vest showcases textured cable work as its signature design feature. The chunky yarn weight combined with cable stitching creates bold, pronounced texture that makes the garment visually distinctive. The waistcoat silhouette provides a classic, versatile piece that coordinates with various wardrobe styles.
