Product Description
T
his bucket crochet bag was designed initially for I Like Crochet magazine for the Chevron Collection issue. I wanted the colors to be somewhat neutrals, so I chose jute as the main color and added light pink and white to add some color and interest into the bag. The pattern is worked in the round from the bottom to the top. At the top of the bag, we create eyelets to add a drawstring and a dainty metal strap is added to the bag (you can also use a fabric strap). The bag is comfortable and light, but big enough to carry all your essentials.
Skill Level - Easy.
The pattern is written using English (U.S) terminology.
The bag is crocheted with Worsted yarn: I used YarnArt - Eco Cotton XL (200gr - 200m/241yd): Color A: 768 Jute - 400 grams (482yds/440m) Color B: 760 White - 50 grams (120yds/110m) Color C: 766 Pink - 50 grams (120yds/110m) ** You can use any 100% cotton or cotton blend worsted yarn.
You would also need a 32’’ (80cm) metal or fabric bag strap with clips.
Chevron Bucket Bag by Gootie
Project Overview
The Chevron Bucket Bag is a beginner-friendly crochet project designed by Gootie (Agat Rottman-Cassel). This downloadable PDF pattern provides instructions for creating a structured bucket-style bag featuring a distinctive chevron stitch pattern. The finished project is suitable for personal use or small-scale selling, making it an accessible option for crocheters looking to create a practical, stylish accessory.
What Is Being Made
This pattern creates a bucket bag—a cylindrical tote-style bag with a wide opening and structured sides. The chevron stitch pattern forms the primary visual design element, creating a classic zigzag texture across the body of the bag. The bucket shape makes it ideal for everyday carry, with enough capacity for personal items while maintaining a compact, organized silhouette.
Crochet Techniques and Stitches Used
The Chevron Bucket Bag employs fundamental crochet techniques suitable for beginners. The pattern utilizes the following stitches:
- Chain stitch (ch) – Used to create the foundation and increase rows
- Single crochet (sc) – Provides a tight, dense fabric base
- Double crochet (dc) – Creates the primary chevron pattern with its taller stitch height
- Treble crochet (tr) – Adds height variation to the chevron design
- Slip stitch (ss) – Joins rounds and creates seamless transitions
The chevron stitch pattern itself is created by working increases and decreases in a repeating sequence, producing the characteristic V-shaped peaks and valleys that give the bag its distinctive textured appearance. This technique-forward design adds visual interest while remaining accessible to beginners.
Materials and Yarn Specifications
The Chevron Bucket Bag pattern calls for specific materials to achieve the intended finished product:
- Hook size: G / 4.0 mm crochet hook
- Yarn weight: Worsted weight yarn

The YarnArt Eco-Cotton XL yarn provides a durable, breathable fabric suitable for a functional bag. The Jute colorway provides a natural, neutral tone that complements the chevron texture.
