Product Description
This is for a pdf pattern. Not a finished product.
This beautiful crochet pattern works up quick and is perfect for beginners. This blanket makes a great last minute gift for a baby shower, and is easy to scale up if you would like to make an even larger blanket! You can easily make any size from throw to twin, queen or king.
This chevron pattern design features a "no holes" design which is great for cold winter nights, and is safe for little fingers and toes.
This chevron pattern also has a crisp color change by crocheting in the back loop only for the first row of a new color, but works in both loops for the rest of the pattern.
I hope you enjoy this pattern as much as I enjoyed making it! Please let me know if you have any questions or issues while working with my pattern.
Chevron Baby Blanket by Caitlin's Contagious Creations
Project Overview
This gender-neutral chevron baby blanket is a beginner-friendly crochet project that creates a classic zigzag pattern perfect for nurseries. The finished blanket measures 32 inches wide by 37 inches long, making it an ideal size for a crib or stroller. The pattern is easily customizable by adjusting the number of multiples worked, allowing crafters to create larger or smaller versions as needed.
What Is Being Made
A soft, colorful baby blanket featuring a traditional chevron stripe pattern. The blanket uses four coordinating colors of worsted weight yarn to create distinct horizontal bands of zigzag design, resulting in a visually striking yet soothing piece suitable for infants and young children.
Crochet Techniques and Stitches Used
This beginner-level project employs fundamental crochet techniques that build essential skills:
- Double Crochet (DC) – The primary stitch used throughout the blanket to create the main fabric and structure
- Double Crochet 2 Together (DC2TOG) – A decrease stitch that combines two stitches into one, used to create the valley points of the chevron pattern
- Double Crochet 3 Together (DC3TOG) – A more pronounced decrease stitch that merges three stitches into one, used to form the sharper angles of the zigzag design
These decrease stitches are essential for creating the characteristic peaks and valleys of the chevron pattern. The pattern includes detailed tutorials for the special stitches, making it accessible for beginners who may be unfamiliar with decrease techniques.
Materials and Tools
The blanket requires minimal materials, making it an economical project:
- Yarn: One skein each of four colors in worsted weight (4) yarn. The pattern was designed using Red Heart Super Saver yarn in the colors Ivory, Sage, Dusty Grey, and Buff
- Hook: I9/5.50 mm crochet hook
- Additional Tools: A tapestry needle or yarn needle for weaving in ends
Pattern Flexibility and Sizing
One of the key advantages of this pattern is its adjustability. The blanket can be resized by working in multiples of 18 and adding 15 to the desired multiple. For example, (10 x 18) + 15 equals 195 stitches for the starting chain. This mathematical approach allows crafters to customize the width and overall dimensions while maintaining the chevron pattern integrity.
Gauge and Finishing Notes
No specific gauge is required for this blanket, making it an excellent beginner project. Individual crochet tension may result in slight size variations, but these natural differences add to the handmade charm of the finished piece. The blanket is completed with a tapestry needle to weave in yarn ends, creating a polished, professional appearance.
