Checkmate! Mosaic Chess square & border

CHECKMATE!! This pattern is for an overlay mosaic crochet square featuring all 6 chess pieces that can be used in other types of projects, such as blankets, pillows, satchel bags, table mats, etc.

This PDF download includes full row-by-row written instructions for the square, along with a chart that has all the Xs marked. There is also a BONUS CHART to use for borders or blanket rows!

Any yarn or hook will work, depending on the desired size of the finished square. I used yarn weight of 4 with a 5.5 hook, which creates a square of 13.5” x 13”.

You will need 2 colors of yarn - one for the background, another for the borders & chess pieces. If using medium weight #4 yarn & a 5.5 mm hook, you will need approximately 2 oz (100 yds) of each color, however you can use whatever yarn & hook you like.
