Product Description
THIS IS A DOWNLOADABLE PATTERN. Not a finished product. Inspired by the Herb Fairies Series by Kimberly Gallagher and LearningHerbs. Cerulea Fairy is an elder member of the Herb Fairy series and uses her plant magic to provide immune support and wellbeing. She is beautiful inside and out and brings the colours of her berries into her dress while her belt represents the elderflower umbels. She stands approximately 30cm tall works up very quickly. Cerulea is a nearly seamless crochet doll; her arms must be sewn on. Wires are used in my designs so they are moveable dolls, you can omit this step and use polyester stuffing if you wish. Materials used include 8 ply yarn, crochet cotton for eyes along with various tools including wire, hot glue gun and polyester stuffing. I have used 7.5mm dolls safety eyes in this pattern but they are not recommended as a toy to 3 years and under.
Cerulea the Elderflower Fairy Crochet Doll Pattern
What Is Being Made
Cerulea the Elderflower Fairy is an amigurumi-style crochet doll designed by Leanne Vickery and inspired by the Herb Fairies book series by Kimberley Gallagher. This downloadable PDF pattern enables crafters to create a detailed fairy character with botanical theming, combining textile arts with herbal knowledge. The doll is designed to bring the fictional fairy characters to life for storytelling, play, and educational purposes related to herbs and their properties.
Craft and Techniques
This project uses crochet as the primary construction method. The pattern is classified as intermediate difficulty, indicating it requires foundational crochet skills and familiarity with working in the round and shaping techniques typical of amigurumi construction. The designer, Leanne Vickery, is a degree-qualified Medical Herbalist who has combined her expertise in plants with textile arts to create these character dolls, ensuring both craft quality and thematic authenticity.
Stitches and Construction
While specific stitch details are not provided in the available content, amigurumi dolls of this type typically employ fundamental crochet stitches including single crochet, increases, and decreases worked in continuous rounds to form three-dimensional body parts. The intermediate skill level suggests the pattern includes shaping techniques for creating the fairy's distinctive features and proportions.
Materials
The pattern calls for DK weight yarn, a medium-light yarn weight suitable for creating detailed amigurumi with good stitch definition. Crafters will also require an appropriate crochet hook sized for DK yarn, typically in the US size E/4 (3.5mm) to F/5 (3.75mm) range, along with standard finishing supplies such as yarn needle and fiberfill stuffing for completing the three-dimensional doll.
Pattern Format
This is a downloadable PDF pattern provided by the independent designer Petal & Yarn, making it accessible for immediate digital purchase and printing for reference while crafting.
