Product Description

Celina is an updated and more comfortable version of my Birte pattern: It is a little bit bigger than the original and it is worked in the round most of the time. Only from the beginning of the raglan you will have to work in rows. The sleeves will be set in afterwards.

A special feature is the wide Fair Isle border at the back and front part. Also an eyecatcher ist the neckline border with the same Fair Isle pattern.

Celina Raglan Sweater by Rita Maassen

What is Being Made

The Celina is a raglan-style sweater designed by Rita Maassen, a knitwear designer. This pullover sweater features classic raglan construction, where the sleeves are joined to the body with diagonal seams running from the underarm to the neckline. The sweater is available in five sizes ranging from S to 2XL, with finished bust circumferences of 38 to 50 inches (96 to 128 cm). The design is intended to be worn with 2 to 3 inches of positive ease at the bust for a comfortable, relaxed fit.

Knitting Techniques

This intermediate-level knitting project employs raglan construction as its primary shaping technique. Raglan sleeves are created by decreasing stitches along the diagonal raglan lines, which allows the sweater to be knitted seamlessly or with minimal seaming depending on the construction method used. The pattern utilizes a two-color design, incorporating a main color and contrasting color to create visual interest in the finished garment. The use of sport-weight yarn in this construction requires attention to gauge and stitch definition to achieve proper fit and drape.

Stitches and Stitch Work

While specific stitch abbreviations are not detailed in the provided content, the Celina sweater is constructed using fundamental knitting stitches typical of intermediate sweater patterns. The raglan shaping involves strategic decreases to form the characteristic diagonal lines. The pattern accommodates multiple sizes through stitch count adjustments, requiring knitters to understand how to increase and decrease stitches appropriately to maintain pattern integrity across different garment sizes.

Materials and Yarn

The Celina sweater is designed to be knitted with Kremke Soul Wool BÉBÈ soft wash, a yarn composed of 100% merino wool. This sport-weight yarn offers 153 yards (140 meters) per 50-gram skein. The pattern calls for a two-color colorway: the main color is silver grey (color #20), requiring 6 to 10 skeins depending on size, and a contrasting color in pale green, requiring 4 to 7 skeins. The merino wool fiber provides softness and breathability, making this sweater suitable for layering or wearing as a standalone piece. Knitters will need appropriate needles sized for sport-weight yarn to achieve the correct gauge as specified in the pattern.
