Product Description
The Casey set is a crochet pattern set consisting of his and hers scarves which are perfect for donating, gifting or making for yourself!
Each stitch used has a right and a left handed video tutorial to go with them as well as written instructions, so this is a great project for a confident beginner or an experienced crocheter.
My scarf measure 60’’ long and 7.5’’ (female) or 9’’ (male) but you can very easily amend these sizes to suit your requirements or preferences! They require #4 weight yarn (I used approx 450 yards on each scarf) and a 6mm hook to give them bounce and that 'squishiness' that you just love to touch whilst also being perfect for keeping you warm on those fresh autumn walks or chillier winter days.
All of our patterns are tested by experienced crocheters.
Casey Set by Sunflower Cottage Crochet
Project Overview
The Casey Set is a downloadable crochet pattern designed by Sara Marsh and Helen Wilkinson of Sunflower Cottage Crochet. This beginner-friendly project creates a coordinated scarf set suitable for crafters new to crochet techniques. The pattern accommodates multiple sizing options, including versions for both female and male wearers, making it a versatile accessory design.
What Is Being Made
The Casey Set is a scarf project that offers flexibility in length and styling. The pattern includes instructions for creating scarves in different sizes and proportions, allowing makers to customize their finished piece based on personal preference and yarn availability. This makes it an excellent project for those looking to create personalized accessories.
Materials Required
- Yarn: #4 weight yarn (aran weight) in two coordinating colors. The designer used Stylecraft Simply Aran in sage (Color A) and cream (Color B), requiring approximately 320 yards of the primary color and 200 yards of the secondary color for the female version. The male version uses less than 1 skein of cream and 2 skeins of sage.
- Hook: 6mm crochet hook
- Notions: Stitch markers (optional), scissors, and a tapestry needle for finishing
Crochet Techniques and Stitches
As a beginner-level pattern, the Casey Set employs fundamental crochet techniques appropriate for those developing their skills. The pattern emphasizes consistent tension throughout the project rather than strict gauge requirements, which is typical for scarf patterns where exact measurements are less critical than overall drape and appearance.
Gauge Considerations: The pattern notes that gauge is not critical for this scarf project, provided that your tension remains consistent throughout the work. This relaxed approach to gauge makes the Casey Set particularly accessible to beginners who may still be developing even, consistent stitching.
Design Features
The Casey Set showcases a two-color colorway design, combining contrasting or complementary yarn colors to create visual interest. The use of aran weight yarn allows for relatively quick project completion while still producing a substantial, wearable accessory. The pattern's flexibility in sizing demonstrates thoughtful design that accommodates different body types and personal style preferences.
