"Cabletta Junior" is a beautiful garment with an interesting hourglass shape on the back inspired by a store bought sweater. This cardigan is knit top down, completely seamlessly with set in sleeves worked using short rows. First, you knit the back and then both fronts. When you reach the underarms, join all pieces to work them together. Once you complete the body, pick up the stitches around the armholes to work the sleeves from the top down.
The Cabletta Junior is a seamless knitted cardigan designed by Hanna Maciejewska. This garment features prominent cable pattern panels that run vertically from the top to the bottom of the piece, creating an elegant and textured appearance suitable for intermediate knitters.
This cardigan is constructed using a top-down seamless construction technique, which means you begin knitting from the neckline and work downward toward the hem. The design eliminates the need for seaming, as all pieces are joined and worked together as one continuous fabric. The construction process follows a specific sequence: the back section is knitted first, followed by both front panels. Once the underarm shaping is reached, all pieces are joined to work the body as a single unit. After completing the main body, stitches are picked up around the armholes to work the sleeves from the top down, creating set-in sleeves using short-row shaping for a professional fit.
The Cabletta Junior features an 8-row repeating cable chart that is straightforward enough to memorize, making it accessible for intermediate-level knitters. The cable pattern is worked on the front panels, where cable panels run straight from the top to the bottom of each front section. The back section incorporates more complex cable work that begins with straight cables before transitioning into additional shaping. Both written instructions and a chart are provided to guide knitters through the cable pattern repeats.
This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty. While the cable pattern itself is described as easy to memorize with its simple 8-row repeat, the overall construction requires attention to detail, particularly in the back section where cable shaping becomes more complicated. Knitters should be comfortable with seamless construction techniques, short-row shaping for sleeve cap shaping, and following cable charts or written instructions.
