Enjoy the three different stitch patterns, the Trellis Stitch, the Wigwam Stitch and the Bobble Cable stitch (not a cable, in spite of the name). The edging is a twisted cable stitch. Cable No Cable Cowl by boknits
What Is Being Made
The Cable No Cable Cowl is a double-length knitted cowl designed for versatile styling and comfort. This advanced knitting project creates a richly textured accessory that can be worn draped gracefully around the shoulders or wound tightly for warmth in cold weather. The double length provides flexibility, allowing knitters to customize the finished dimensions by shortening or lengthening the pattern to suit individual preferences.
Design Features and Stitch Techniques
This cowl showcases three distinct textured stitch patterns that create visual interest and depth without requiring cable needles—a key feature for uninterrupted, mindless knitting during television viewing or relaxation. The pattern combines:
- Trellis Stitch – creates an open, lattice-like texture
- Wigwam Stitch – produces a distinctive geometric pattern
- Bobble Cable Stitch – generates cable-like texture through bobble construction rather than traditional cable crossing techniques
- Twisted Cable Stitch edging – frames the cowl with a refined finished edge
The design cleverly mimics the appearance of cables while eliminating the need for cable needles, making this an excellent project for knitters seeking textured results with simplified techniques. The combination of three different stitch patterns ensures visual complexity and prevents monotony during the knitting process.
Materials and Yarn Requirements
This cowl requires only 2 skeins of worsted weight yarn, making it an efficient and economical project. The pattern calls for hand-dyed worsted, which adds richness and visual depth to the finished textured stitches. The modest yardage requirement makes this an accessible project for stash busting or featuring premium artisan yarns.
Difficulty Level
Rated as an advanced knitting project, the Cable No Cable Cowl is suitable for experienced knitters comfortable with multiple stitch patterns, texture work, and pattern reading. The advanced designation reflects the complexity of executing three different textured stitches with precision and consistency.
