Product Description

This is a corner to corner crochet version of my Santa chart, this version includes a c2c picture chart and a colour-coded written version for those who prefer to follow worded instructions. I have also included a "how to corner to corner crochet" guide for those who might not have crocheted an image. The guide also has a border option for those who may want to add a decorative edge to their finished blanket.

The finished blanket will be a different size depending on the yarn you use (using 4ply gives you a lovely baby blanket size)

C2C Santa Corner to Corner Blanket

What Is Being Made

This is a corner to corner (C2C) crochet blanket featuring a festive Santa design. The project creates a colorful graphical blanket using the corner-to-corner crochet technique, which builds the fabric diagonally from one corner to the opposite corner. The finished blanket displays a detailed Santa picture chart suitable for holiday décor and gift-giving.

Corner to Corner (C2C) Crochet Technique

Corner to corner crochet is a popular method for creating graphical designs and pixel-art style blankets. This technique involves:

  • Starting at one corner of the blanket and working diagonally across
  • Building the fabric in a diagonal direction rather than traditional row-by-row construction
  • Using a picture chart to guide color changes and stitch placement
  • Creating a structured, geometric pattern that follows the charted design
  • Allowing for easy color changes to build detailed, multi-colored images

Stitches Used

The C2C technique relies on fundamental crochet stitches executed in a diagonal building pattern. While specific stitch abbreviations are not detailed in the provided materials, corner to corner crochet typically employs basic crochet stitches worked in a manner that creates small square blocks. Each block in the chart corresponds to one stitch unit, allowing crafters to follow the Santa picture chart systematically.

Materials Required

Yarn: DK weight yarn in the following colors as indicated on the Santa picture chart:

  • Green
  • Red
  • White
  • Black
  • Flesh tone
  • Yellow

Tools: An appropriate crochet hook sized for DK weight yarn (typically a size H/5mm or I/5.5mm hook, depending on desired tension).

Difficulty Level

This project is rated as intermediate difficulty. While the corner to corner technique itself is accessible to crocheters with basic skills, this blanket requires managing multiple color changes, following a detailed 82-by-82-square chart, and maintaining consistent tension throughout a large project. Crafters should be comfortable with color changes and reading crochet charts before beginning.

Pattern Format

This is a downloadable PDF pattern designed by Instarsia (EJHeywood). The pattern includes a comprehensive Santa picture chart with numbered rows and columns for easy reference. The chart uses color coding to indicate which yarn color should be used in each stitch block, making it straightforward to follow the design progression.

Versatility

While designed specifically for corner to corner crochet, the Instarsia chart can be adapted for other crafting techniques. The pattern notes that the same chart is interchangeable and suitable for knitting or traditional crochet methods, offering flexibility for crafters who prefer different techniques or yarn types.
