Come learn just how fun it can be to crochet Bonnie's EASY Summer Top! This top is crocheted using the wattle stitch, giving this cotton fabric the extra ease necessary so that it will fit you in a flattering manner. Using the complete video tutorial listed in the project, crocheters who are a confident beginner and above should be able to accomplish this design.
Bonnie's EASY Summer Top is a beginner-friendly crocheted garment designed for warm-weather wear. This downloadable PDF pattern by designer Bonnie Barker provides instructions for creating a flattering, comfortable summer top available in six sizes ranging from Small through 3X-Large.
The top is constructed using the wattle stitch, a specialized crochet technique that creates a fabric with built-in elasticity and drape. This stitch structure provides the extra ease necessary for the garment to fit in a flattering manner while maintaining breathability ideal for summer wear. The pattern includes detailed schematic sizing charts to ensure proper fit across all available sizes.
The primary stitches used in this pattern include:
The ribbing stitch is worked in alternating rows of double crochet and post stitches to create an elastic, fitted edge that helps the garment maintain its shape.
The pattern calls for 100% cotton yarn in a fine weight (#2), specifically Knitting Fever's Painted Lace in the "Gold Coast" color. Yardage requirements are 874 yards (800 meters) for sizes Small and Medium using one cake of yarn, while sizes Large through 3X-Large require two cakes for adequate yardage. Two crochet hooks are needed: a size G (4.00 mm) and a size F (3.75 mm), or sizes as needed to achieve proper gauge.
The recommended gauge is 21 stitches and 12 rows over 4 inches when working the ribbing stitch with the larger hook. Additional notions include a yarn needle, scissors, tape measure, and optional stitch markers for tracking pattern repeats.
Rated as a beginner-level project, Bonnie's EASY Summer Top is designed to be accessible to newer crocheters while still producing a polished, wearable garment. The straightforward construction and clear instructions make it an ideal introduction to garment crochet.

Great pattern. The wattle stitch is great and there is also a u-tube video link if needed. Easy top to make up.
